New-Gen Toyota Corolla India Launch In 2020, to come in BS VI only.

Quote:
Toyota offers different-looking versions of new Corolla in China and the US.

India is likely to get the China-spec Corolla.

Toyota might not offer a diesel engine on the new Corolla.

Likely to be rebadged as a Maruti Suzuki as well.

It is fair to say that the saloon rarely feels brisk, and hard acceleration requires patience, because a heavy right foot will kick the hybrid powertrain into emergency mode and send the revs (and noise) soaring. However, once you’re up to speed, the engine settles down pretty nicely; glance down at the rev counter at 70mph and you may be surprised, in fact, at how often the engine cuts out altogether.

The corolla looks sharp and chiselled in the above pics and the colour is also nice. The taillights remind me of Passat/Jetta taillights, and the rear looks nice overall. The side profile too looks a bit sporty when compared to the bland current generation.

Is it me or does this new Corolla look more European in design than Japanese now?

The new Toyotas are indeed much better looking than their predecessors. The same discussion came up on the new Supra unveil thread as well. The Corolla hatch for example can have its logo replaced with an Opel and you cant make out.

Re: Spied: All-new 2019 Toyota Corolla

This is a very nice looking car (for a Toyota) and IMO looks better than the 10G Honda Civic. The rear end reminds me of the VW Jetta.

Re: Spied: All-new 2019 Toyota Corolla

Looks chiseled and lean.

Toyota has clearly taken inspiration from 2019 Lexus ES300.

Making the value mass-market brand look like its more expensive sibling has never been a bad thing!

Re: Spied: All-new 2019 Toyota Corolla

It got very European feel to it; really important for Toyota to get the design and looks right especially because of the good looking competition from Japan itself - the Civic looks great and the 2019 Mazda 3 looks smashing!

Re: Spied: All-new 2019 Toyota Corolla

After a long time a good looking Toyota! Looks very European to me. Now I don't know whether that is a good thing or a bad thing. Honda and Toyota are the flag bearers of Japanese cars and design language. We don't want Toyotas looking like VWs do we?

Why not? Japanese no nonsense reliability inside a European tuxedo. Best of both worlds.

For once, i dont mind splurging on a new corolla. Just hope the engine that makes it to india has some muscle.

Re: Spied: All-new 2019 Toyota Corolla

Apparently the next generation of the Corolla Altis has been cancelled for India. Can anyone confirm this?

https://indianautosblog.com/toyota-c...celled-p316972

Having owned each generation of the Corolla, I swear by it! The Corolla is a supremely practical, reliable and comfortable car to live with. I had my eyes on the next-gen model as a replacement for my 2010 Altis. Will be very sad if this is true.

Find this stupid newspaper reporting. The corolla current one may be cancelled as it cannot be upgraded to BS6 but new one will be here more so to face the new civic. Be assured by 2020 new one should be here.

The current Corolla and the 2020 model will have the same 140 PS/138 BHP 2ZR-FE engine. But in the US it would have additional options with a 169 BHP 2L engine plus a hybrid powertrain

That 2ZR-FE and cost of mods & tweaks for BS6 compliance is possibly the reason why TKM does not want to launch the car in India. Of course TKM have declined comment on these press reports so potential customers will simply have to wait and see what happens in the next 6-12 months.
