Can you elaborate a bit ? . How does a visitor unfamiliar with the city get around?

I am sorry, I confused what I had read about rental car companies with taxi companies (though the term can be used interchangeably in our country).
Ford even builds a LWB Crown Victoria (as if it needs to be any bigger) for the Taxi markets since last year.

Magic Bus from Jo'burg International. The only way.

Private Pickup - preferably in a bulletproof van - from a company driver carrying an ID and verifiable with his telephone number that has been given to you before you start your journey, from Murtala Muhammad International, Lagos.

Kuwait had a love affair with American automobiles since the seventies, when I was there, & the US base thingy may have reinforced it.

For us they were always Chevrolet Caprice Classics, either sedans or station wagons, in orange with a thick white stripe painted around the base of the pillars.

Toyota Cressidas' used to be very popular as private cabs in the UAE, before they began to be replaced by the Camrys'. In places like Sharjah, Corollas were/are quite popular.
