Motortrend gives a comprehensive first look of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon


The headline figures and totally bonkers.
808 horsepower and 717 lb-ft of torque on 91 octane gas
and.
840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque on 100-plus high-octane race fuel.


All of these thanks to a modified Hellcat engine with a new, larger 2.7-liter supercharger (up from 2.4 liters in lesser Hellcats) and boost pressure raised to 14.5 psi from 11.6 psi


Zero to 60 mph in 2.1 seconds on a regulation drag strip. (Not on street)
Zero to 100 mph in 5.1 seconds.



With such astounding numbers. Pretty sure this is the view most of the world would have of this car.

Fun Facts below.

The Car is a Guinness World Records holder for the longest wheelie for a production car at 2.92 feet with front wheels off the ground.

The team dropped 200 pounds with smaller brakes and hollow anti-roll bars, by removing carpeting and all but the driver’s seat, and by going with a basic two-speaker stereo

315 Section wheels on all four wheels.

It comes with the largest functional hood scoop on a production car at 42.5 square inches. There are three air vents in total for massive airflow, and the air drops in temperature by 30 degrees through the air inlets. A liquid-to-air intercooler chiller system and after-run chiller cool it even more.

It is ironic that the one thing this car is purpose built to do has got it banned from doing exactly that! Being under 9.99 seconds and having an exit speed of 140 mph means that in its current form, you can't take it to the drag strip here in US without installing a roll cage and getting a racing license. Another 10mph faster and it would have required a parachute as well!

All said and done, I absolutely love the commitment that Dodge is showing to the drag culture of racing.

As if the Hellcat wasn't crazy enough - holy cow, 840 horses & 0 - 60 mph in 2.1 seconds .

If the objective of Dodge was to bring some coolness back to the brand, the Challenger (and its many versions) has succeeded. This is what a halo car should be. I also think the Challenger is the best looking muscle car today, better than the Mustang & Camaro.

Anyone agree that no one other than the Americans could come up with such a crazy ride? In this era of EVs & clean tail-pipes, it's a relief to see that some manufacturers still love having fun . Hats off to Sergio for signing off on this project even through the challenging times for FCA.

The car originally comes with 315 sections even in the front.
But
What you see in this video are the option Narrow drag spec Aluminum wheels which comes in a specialised crate along with other drag specific components.

Personalized, serialized Demon Crate with the buyer’s name, VIN, and serial number. The crate contains narrow front runner aluminum drag wheels for the track, performance parts, tools, jacks—everything you need once you reach the track.

.Parts include a powertrain control module to switch to high-octane gas, a switch module with a big, round button to push to switch gas and remap the engine, an air filter, tools, and a tire pressure gauge.

The attention that Dodge has given to this demographic is too much. The crate which contains all these spares fits right inside the boot.

Come on man! EVs can be fun too. P100D does (almost) all of that and can still do grocery runs with no drag radials at the back and no moped tyre at the front. And you don't need 'dripping rubber' or an experienced racer behind the wheel either.

I think it's an answer to all those noobs killing the Challengers with their EVs with no drama.

Low centre of gravity, instant torque, smart all-wheel drive system and not-so-high top speed makes Teslas great fun in the real world. I love 'em.

EVs might be faster or slower than my favourite cars, but they don't offer the same character. Have you driven a Tesla hard? I personally haven't, but from what I've read & heard (reliable sources), there is simply no drama. Also, while the initial acceleration from the Model S is good, it's not the case after 80 - 100 mph.

To me, the mechanical feel of conventional cars offers a lot of pleasure. The sound, the feel, the experience. I don't see that happening with a Model S. Full credit to Tesla, and I'm a big fan of their engineering achievements, but I prefer internal combustion engines.

With the recent interest of FCA in India with Jeep brand & Ford offering Mustang in RHD for India, i pray & hope that the next gen Dodge Challenger to be made in RHD and someday we see the Challenger hit Indian shores.

Hennessey sure has tuned the 650bhp LT4 motor from Camaro ZL1 into a monster with 1000 bhp and 966 lbft of torque. But then in clever word play have launched the Exorcist to tame the Demon.

Saw an image appropriate to this word play in Motortrend and thought of sharing.


Being offered with manual and the awesome new 10 speed automatic that GM has been using in its performance cars to much acclaim. But the headline figures do not seem to match the Dodge maybe because straightline speed is not their goal. The Camaro ZL1 is universally being acclaimed as a track monster and a beautiful handling car. A track pack to aid handling will be provided as optional in the Exorcist.

The slow throughput of Hennessey also would mean only 100 would be made per year. Would take a long time to march the Dodge limited production run of 3300 for Demon.
