Arnold Schwarzenegger's Hummer H1 converted to an EV

Kreisel Electric Austria converted Arnold Schwarzenegger's Hummer H1 (and his Merc G-Class earlier, last November) into an EV. The car is equipped with high-performance batteries developed by Kreisel with 100 kWh capacity, and electric motors at both axles, churning out a stated 360kW. That is enough to propel the 3300-kg vehicle to a top speed of 120 kmph and a range of 300 km.

With the impending threat of Indian roads being out of bounds for cars running on internal combustion engines in a little over a decade, this is extremely interesting stuff!

Kudos to Kreisel, & interesting stuff indeed! For us though, about as interesting as the Kohinoor diamond to a puncture repairer

Re: Arnold Schwarzenegger's Hummer H1 converted to an EV

From the specifications mentioned about, this 3.3 tonne behemoth manages 300 Kms from it's 100Kwh battery.

Considering charging efficiency of around 80% that's around 125 units of electricity, recorded at the meter, which is around Rs 1500 (Bangalore). Not bad!

A 3.3 tonne behemoth, with running cost of Rs 5 per Km, which is less than my Polo.

Not really. Cost of conversion would be related to economies of scale as well as country of manufacture. If the Indian government asks Kreisel Electric to set up a manufacturing base in India, we would benefit from such conversions which may cost less than the price of a new car after we are asked to scrap our 10- / 15-year-old cars which we may well be sentimentally attached to! Oh, and Arnold's H1 is a 2006 model.

Interesting calculation, that!

'Economies of scale' is a sound concept in a segment which is already up and running. In the present instance (pollution free, sustainable, alternate energy source as motive power), in our country, where the first lithium battery plant is still just on the horizon (Suzuki's) & where our netas still keep babbling about cut-off dates (2030 ??) for fossil-fuelled cars - economies of scale for Schwarzenegger's Hummer seems a bit far-fetched & still a longed-for dream.

Re: Arnold Schwarzenegger's Hummer H1 converted to an EV

Hummer- Electric by Kreisel makes its driving debut,

Quote:
Given the efficiency realities of such a big, heavy and largely brick-shaped electric vehicle, we would not advise its use as a long distance daily commuter, but rather as the platform was indeed, for off-road applications.

Kreisel Electric has developed the electric Hummer as demonstrator of technology. The 100 kWh battery seems a like decent starting choice, although we wouldn’t be surprised if 200 kWh would be required for any heavy-duty jobs of consequence
Quick specs of the Kreisel Electric Hummer H1 EV:
•360 kW double-motor, all-wheel drive
•100 kWh battery for up to 300 km (186 miles) range
•120 km/h (75 mph) top speed
•total weight of 3,300 kg (7,275 lbs)

Re: Arnold Schwarzenegger's Hummer H1 converted to an EV

My daily drive is 60 kms to and fro. I don't see it can't be used as a daily commuter. It will last 5 at least. I wonder what the charging time will be ? If you just leave it charging overtime this could be a practical daily vehicle. In the States that is and in lesser denser areas of population :-)
