Polestar 4:
Polestar's new electric car has no rear window.
The 4-mile Polestar 350 attempts to maximize interior space and correct the mistakes of the much-maligned coupe SUV.
Polestar is a purely electric design-driven brand, so the arrival of the Polestar 4 comes as no surprise (especially, coming as it does, after the Polestar 1, 2 and 3). that this intelligent brand of lateral thinkers and style experts wants to rescue one of the most atrocious automotive niches: the SUV coupe.
It helps that the company's CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, was a designer in a previous life. "Instead of simply modifying an existing SUV, giving it a faster roofline and, as a result, compromising elements such as rear headroom and comfort, we have designed the Polestar 4 from the ground up as a new generation of SUV coupe that celebrates the comfort of rear occupants." He claims.
So while the more powerful dual-motor Polestar 4 is powered by a 102kWh battery for a stated range of 350 miles (WLTP) and is the highest-performing Polestar to date, it's understandable that all eyes are on the car's design and rear. finish in particular. Why? Because Polestar has completely gotten rid of the traditional rear window.
Vehicle-to-load capacity
The performance is impressive, if not quite intergalactic. Twin and single engine versions will be available, the long-range twin engine will benefit from a power output of 544 bhp, for a 0 to 62 mph time of 3.8 seconds. That iteration also allows the driver to choose between performance or range modes, and uses a semi-active suspension to sharpen its dynamics.
The long-range single-engine car has 272 bhp and a claimed range of 372 miles (WLTP). The Polestar 4 can also be specified with 22-inch wheels, the largest installed on a Polestar yet. Bidirectional charging is included and there is vehicle-to-charge capability. All versions include charging up to 200 kW DC and 22 kW AC.
Interestingly, the 4 uses parent company Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), a modular "open source" platform that also underpins Zeekr 001, the company's new all-electric brand. </span>(It will also be used by the upcoming smart electric SUV, as part of Mercedes' joint venture with Geely.) Meanwhile, the Polestar 3 uses the Volvo SPA 2 platform which is also the basis for the new all-electric EX90.
Production begins at Geely's Hangzhou Bay plant in China in November this year, although the Polestar 4 will also be manufactured at Volvo's Ridgeville plant in South Carolina, ahead of its 2024 launch in Europe. Expect prices to start around £55,000 ($68,283)."
