Honda is to preview this at the 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit next month.

The Hybrid sedan will sit above the Civic in Honda's portfolio.

The Japanese carmaker and hybrid pioneer describes the new Insight as an “upscale, stylish five-passenger sedan” positioned above the Civic in Honda’s passenger car lineup. According to its maker, the new Insight will use the latest generation of Honda’s innovative two-motor Sport Hybrid Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system, similar in fashion to that found on the Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid.

In the US, the new Insight will slot in to the model line-up above the Civic (which doesn’t have a hybrid version currently), and will form the ‘conventional’ hybrid push alongside the Accord Hybrid, with the Clarity providing resolution on hydrogen fuel cell, plug-in and full electric fronts.

The car looks good at-least to me . Hope this time around it will give a tough competition to the market leader Prius. The previous gen one looks like a copy of the Prius and its sales numbers were nothing to write home about.

Honda is following a same kind of design for most of its sedans now. The new gen Accord looks like a magnified version Civic and now this one also resembles the same design language.

It's going to be a challenge for Honda to bring the Insight back. Earlier Insights have all had poor to mediocre sales as Honda's hybrids have simply not been as good as Toyota's.

Timing is also typical Honda (read = missing the train). They brought a diesel engine to India just when the market started shifting back to petrols, and this Insight is coming at a time when hybrid sales have either flattened or are dropping in USA. Electric vehicles have replaced hybrids as the tree-huggers technology of choice.

Maybe Honda should have thought of a mass market EV to rival the Tesla Model 3? Now, that would be newsworthy.

Looks like a Civic with the front end of an Accord. But yes, I agree with you. Going by the standards of Honda's increasingly weird designs, this one appears more palatable.

Strange designs, falling quality & being left behind in the tech race = Honda today. Who would've thought, huh?

US bound 2018 Honda Insight hybrid prototype revealed.

The front will adopt Honda’s aggressive new styling theme, with a metallic strip running the full width, tying in with Honda’s other US-market models.

The Japanese automaker expects the new Insight to receive an EPA fuel economy rating in excess of 50 mpg (4.7 l/100km). Doing all the work will be a two-motor hybrid system, using an efficient 1.5-liter petrol unit, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery back, the latter located under the rear seats, allowing for a full-size trunk and an available 60/40 split and folding rear seats

Inside, the car has an 8.0in touchscreen infotainment system and a 7.0in LCD display behind the steering wheel. It’ll feature smartphone-mimicking customisation of the interface and applications, as well as the ability to update software over-the-air via wi-fi.

2019 Honda Insight Prototype at the Chicago Auto Show - looks like a more elegant version of the Civic.

Likely to be like a mainstream hybrid model.

Honda isn't saying much about the specs, but it seems it hasn't given up on using a smaller engine than the Prius. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter. And no, VTEC Turbo won't kick in

New Honda Insight revealed ahead of New York debut, will rival Toyota Prius . The new Insight is expected to go on sale in America in summer 2019, but there are no plans to sell the car in the UK or Europe.

The Insight is based on the same platfrom as the current Civic hatchback and powered by the latest version of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid powertrain. This combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor that is powered by a lithium-ion battery.

Under the hood is a 1.5-liter I4 operating on the Atkinson cycle. It mates to an electric motor to produce a net 151 horsepower and 197 pound-feet of torque.

Its lithium-ion battery, sandwiched under the rear seat, isn't enough to produce plug-in-like range. Instead, it operates as a series hybrid (like, say, the Prius), providing electricity to the wheels or the battery pack as it sees fit. Paddles on the steering wheel let drivers select between three different strenghs of regenerative braking.

Honda estimates a city fuel economy of 55 mpg.

Honda's Insight starts production in Indiana - OH,

All Insight models for the North American market will be built at the Greensburg plant in Indiana, where an investment of $32.5 million was made in order to support production. A further $29 million was invested in Ohio to oversee production of the Insight’s twin electric motor unit.

The new model is scheduled to arrive in Honda dealerships in early summer.
