A new Peer-to-Peer App for Vintage Car rentals in USA

LOS ANGELES (USA): A new app has come out for car enthusiasts who only want to drive vintage luxury vehicle on rent across the US.

Through the new app, DriveShare, the users can choose from a wide array of about 600 unique cars ranging from Porches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Jaguars, Mustangs and the likes.

The cars range from $100 to $2,500 per day, depending on the car's make and model.

In Airbnb-esque manner, DriveShare lets its users rent out cars directly from the owners. There is an insurance agreement signed between the user and the owner after which the keys are handed out.

Just wanted to point out the most popular P2P car rental app here - Turo. It also has some classic cars, over & above regular cars, pickup trucks, exotics etc.

Pretty good! The costs (starting at $100) are pretty reasonable, considering the experience. I'd love to try this out!

Just curious, does the US have rules that prohibit cars beyond a certain age to ply?

Interesting that you bring this up. I've been thinking of posting about Turo.

Some time in 2017, Mercedes-Benz launched Croove, a car sharing service (like airbnb).

Quote:
Croove brings private vehicle providers and those who wish to rent a car together in an uncomplicated manner. The intuitive app-based service from Mercedes-Benz is available for all car makes. After the successful start of the pilot phase in Munich, Croove is now being successively rolled out in other major German cities. Croove is conquering the metropolises: safe and individual mobility among private individuals – at attractive prices.

Turo then acquired Croove for $ 92m.

Quote:
Turo has a new strategic partner in automaker Daimler, with ties solidified through both an investment by Daimler in the car-sharing startup and through the acquisition by Turo of Croove, Daimler’s own Turo-like subsidiary.

The funding is part of a new $92 million Series D round raised by Turo, which was also led by South Korean giant SK Holdings, in addition to Daimler, and which includes participation from new investors Liberty Mutual Strategic Ventures and Founders Circle Capital, as well as from existing partners.

Can you rent from Turo (or a similar provider) on an Indian license?

Do any BHPians have experiences with Turo?
I'm trying to get a car for a weekend getaway in Minneapolis and I wanted to try this service rather than get a rental.

Also, are there restrictions on rentals if your residential address is in the same city?

Yes, you can but make sure you have a valid International Driving License.

I rented from Turo around 2 years ago when I was in Chicago (BMW X5), and in Boston (Camaro). The owner's were pretty good when it came to renting out their cars and it was quite easy to co-ordinate for both vehicles.

However, do keep in mind that unlike regular rentals - these cars aren't in the best of condition and often have a fair amount of usage unlike a typical rental car company that will give you the car in pristine condition.
Both the X5 and Camaro had over 60K miles on them, and could really use a wash and a good cleaning.

Please do have a look at the reviews (of the car, as well as the owner) before going ahead with the booking and even then, be prepared that it will more often than not be at least 20% below your expectations (unless you're booking a brand new car / exotic car). But there are some great deals to be had on there.

There aren't any restrictions that I know of, even if your residential address is the same city.
