The World Car Awards / WCOTY thread I wanted to make my 100th post on the Team-BHP.com forum a memorable one, and got lucky when I found out that the winners of the 2018 edition of the World Car Awards (WCA) were announced at the New York International Auto Show just a few weeks back. This thread is intended to showcase all the winners (and, where known, the other two finalists) in each of the categories, going all the way back to the first awards ceremony in 2005.
Enjoy this celebration of automotive excellence! A brief introduction to the World Car Awards
The WCA is arguably the most prestigious and biggest awards programme in the automotive world, and certainly the most representative. The contest was inaugurated in 2003 and officially launched in January 2004. Winners are selected by a jury of over 80 automotive journalists from two dozen countries. To be considered for the awards, the car in question must have been sold in at least 5 countries or 2 continents prior to January 1 of the year of the award.
The awards (especially the WCOTY) are “intended to complement, not compete with existing national and regional COTY awards, which are inherently different in scope. By its nature, WCOTY includes some vehicles that may be unavailable in individual regions, and excludes others whose availability may be limited to those regions.” (Source: the official WCA website, www.wcoty.com) Award categories
