Skoda has been testing the updated/facelift version of the Superb & here are the recent spy pictures;







Changes would include redesigned bumpers both front and rear, the lighting units should also get an LED update and styling refresh.

2019 Skoda Superb Facelift :

Skoda's flagship seen in a subtle refresh. Gets new headlights has and have transitioned from a xenon setup to a full-LED arrangement.

But in typical Skoda fashion, the 2019 Superb is wearing a bit of body-colored camo. It’s noticeable at the front bumper, specifically at the cutouts for the parking sensors and the cap for the tow hook. At the edges of the corporate grille and also between the headlights and the grille. It could be a sign that the lighting clusters will meet with the sides of the grille to make the front fascia seem wider and more imposing.

Have seen them on many Toyota & Honda sedans in Germany but not on German sedans. Rear wipers in sedans are good to have but could be a compromise on aerodynamics & looks.

It's required by law for hatchback models, very useful in winter according to someone who had a car with a similar design for the rear hatch(Saab, I think) .

In India of course its a premium feature for small cars and removed from the octavia and superb because customers don't like the look of the wiper. At launch in the early 2000s, the octavia came with a wiper, I used to see one in my apartment parking lot until recently.

Yup the last I saw a sedan with a rear wiper in India was the Accent Viva and the Skoda Octavia.

ŠKODA reveals a design sketch displaying the first details of its modernised flagship, the SUPERB. The world premiere of the reworked SUPERB family will take place in the Slovakian capital Bratislava in May as part of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

The design sketch of the new ŠKODA SUPERB depicts clean-cut front headlights, fog lights with a distinctive trim as well as the ŠKODA-typical radiator grille. SUPERB will be the first ŠKODA to feature full LED Matrix headlights. Headlights with the signature crystalline elements and the inscription “ŠKODA Crystal Lighting” enhance the model’s new look.

LED technology is also used in the newly shaped fog lights. The dynamic look of the full LED rear lights is compounded by dynamic direction indicators, which light up sequentially, starting from the inner side of the light and sweeping outwards.

The headlights also incorporate the animated Coming/Leaving Home feature, which automatically switches part of the front and rear lighting on and off when you unlock or lock the car.

Skoda unveils its Face-lift Superb - SuperB iV

This is called Superb iV and has thanks to 1.4-liter gasoline engine and electric motorSystem performance of 218 hp . The car creates 55 kilometers of range on purely electric power, and in combination with the gasoline engine it is 850 kilometers (more on this in the engine chapter ). In addition to the new drive are still three gasoline and three diesel with a power range between 120 and 272 hp to choose from. Market launch for the Superb facelift is in fall 2019 . The prices should start at a good 28,000 euros .

UNDER THE BONNET OF THE SUPERB iV - All Details.

A 1.4 TSI petrol engine (highlighted in red) and an electric motor (highlighted in orange) deliver a combined power output of 160 kW (218 PS). The battery is installed under the rear seats.

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles combine an internal combustion engine with an electric motor and a large rechargeable battery. Unlike normal hybrids, plug-in hybrids can be charged from an ordinary socket, so they offer a relatively long range on electricity alone. The ŠKODA SUPERB iV features a 1.4 TSI turbocharged internal combustion engine connected, via a clutch, to a synchronous electric motor.

When it comes to propulsion, the ŠKODA SUPERB iV offers two basic driving modes for the driver to choose between: electric mode and hybrid mode. In electric mode, only the electric motor is operable, while the internal combustion engine remains off. In hybrid mode, the motor control unit itself assesses many different factors and chooses whether to enable one, the other or both engines in order to accommodate the driver’s driving requirements while minimising consumption. Engine activity is displayed on the instrument panel.

The electric motor is also at the front, between the transmission and the internal combustion engine. From an engineering point of view, it is built directly into the gearbox and is separated from the internal combustion engine by a clutch. With this connection, the vehicle can rely on a fully electric ride with the internal combustion engine off or, alternatively, there may be an interplay between the engines in hybrid mode.

Only one internal combustion engine is planned for the SUPERB iV: the 1.4 TSI, delivering maximum power of 115 kW and torque of 250 Nm.

It is a three-phase permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. This type of motor is ideal when it comes to efficiency. The ŠKODA SUPERB iV’s electric motor has maximum power of 85 kW, torque up to 330 Nm, and speeds of up to 7,000 rpm.

The maximum system output is 160 kW in hybrid mode. It can be activated via the Sport button on the bar next to the shift lever or by kicking down the accelerator.

The Li-ion battery, positioned under the rear seats, has a capacity of 13 kWh and weighs in at 135 kg.

The WLTP-measured range in fully electric mode is 55 km.

It takes approximately three and a half hours to charge a flat battery from a 3.6 kW wallbox, and an hour and a half longer using an ordinary 230 V power socket.

The SUPERB iV will also harness regenerative braking.

When a conventional vehicle is braked, the kinetic energy generated by the brake pads is converted into heat and dissipates. In hybrid vehicles, the kinetic energy produced when braking is converted into electricity (the electric motor works as a generator) and is stored in the battery as chemical energy. The energy stored in this way can subsequently be reused for acceleration or for driving at a constant speed.
