Ultra efficient and high speed public transport will not be affordable and convenient IMO. In a country like ours, better infrastructure attracts (pulls) huge crowds that make the very infrastructure inadequate. I realize this when I (seldom) take the Mumbai metro and local train.

So the need for personal transport will be equally felt IMO. The public transport means a lot of tiring walk on or near the stations, being in a sort of stampede and unhygienic conditions in the bus / train /stations, rats / stray dogs / cockroaches and piles of rotting garbage.

Even the electric cars will have a character on their own I think. Though the drivetrain is different, they will still have road behavior, steering, cornering, stability, suspension, torque, road grip etc.

Re: End of the road for petrolheads.

Every horse owners when the first car was introduced,

Every stream engine lover when petrol/electric alternative was introduced,

Every car owner with Hydraulic steering when electric was introduced,

Every 2-stroke bike lover when 4-strokes took over the market,

Every manual sports car owner when Automatic only option was introduced:

"What we have can never be replaced by newer ones"

BUT we keep enjoying new stuff. Maybe this is how things are meant to be.
