Future Lamborghini flagship to get a hybrid engine

According to a media report, Lamborghini is considering using a hybrid powerplant on its future supercar that is said to replace the Aventador. The primary reason for this is the tougher emission and noise regulations.

At present, the Italian company uses a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre, V12 engine. In its latest iteration offered on the Aventador SVJ, the engine churns out 759 BHP @ 8,500 rpm and 720 Nm of peak torque at 6,750 rpm. Lamborghini’s Chief Technical Officer told the media that they would consider a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid to meet the stricter fuel consumption and emission norms.

Lamborghini is known for its stand of staying away from turbocharged engines. While the Urus was an exception to this, the Aventador replacement is unlikely to get a turbocharged engine. However, the company would now have to adopt the latest technologies to stay compliant with the law. The European Union has already introduced road-based emission tests, which would be applicable for all upcoming car launches.
