The Mercedes A35 is AMG’s new baby hot hatch. An A45 will come, but for now we get this 300bhp A-Class to rival the Golf R.

Want to get into the hashtag AMG life but can’t quite afford it? Well, we have good news. Merc’s performance arm has made a new, entry-level baby hot hatch called the A35 AMG.
It’s essentially a cheaper, de-tuned version of the next A45 AMG that we’ll see at some point next year. But even though it’s the cheapest offering from AMG, it’s still £36,000 – putting it directly in competition with the VW Golf R and Honda Civic Type R.
Fitted with a new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder kicking out 306bhp and 296lb ft, the A35 is sandwiched neatly between the 296bhp Golf and 316bhp Honda.

I really have a thing for hot + small + tight + fast cars. Think Mini Cooper S or Cayman S, or lower down the food chain - an Abarth Punto or Polo GTI. People think it's crazy, but IMHO, cars like these are a lot more fun in India where you can actually revv the nuts off them & chuck them in & out of ghat corners. In your Lamborghini, you won't even have a chance to redline beyond 1st gear.

300 BHP on an A-Class sounds just perfect .

I quite like these detuned half AMGs and Ms. The purists may scoff that these are not the real deal, but atleast in the Indian context these are still very very powerful cars. Nearly as much power for almost 60 to 70% of the price of the big guns. Hope some of these make it to India.
