VW CCS Engine. Petrol+Diesel!

Amazingly, Volkswagen have started preliminary testing of a engine that takes technology from both petrol and diesel engines and have come out with what they call is a CCS or Combined Combustion System. Sure, this technology IF it's brought into commercial production is still decades away but it's a great piece on how automotive technology is getting better and better everyday.

So what is CCS and how does it work? A teaser:

VW own nomenclature for what is known as HCCI type engines. FOr the first time its emerged out of a lab dyno and into a car. big step for the technology.

I also read about BMW working on hydrogen combustion engines(dont confuse it with the fuel cell)
would love to see these technologies in action soon, the petrol prices do put a deep hole in our pockets and am also worried bout the environment hehehe... sometimes though thats why I drive my car without the cat converter
