Spy images of the 2021 Mercedes C-Class have surfaced online for the first time. A heavily camouflaged car was spotted on public roads which is reported to be one of the early prototype models.

Overall shape of the car is similar to the current C-Class. The wing mirrors are in a new design and the C-pillar area appears different as well. At the front, the car gets headlights with some sensors embedded inside them. The front grille design is unknown, however the central black portion appears to be a radar for the various safety systems. The rear features temporary tail lights. On the interior, the new C-Class is expected to get an all-digital instrument cluster and smartphone connectivity options.

Reports suggest that the 2021 C-Class would use a modified MRA2 platform from the E-Class and is expected to be a rear wheel drive layout. Select variants might get an all-wheel drive option. A plug-in hybrid version is also expected. The conventional engines would include new-generation six-cylinder and turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel units.

That said, it is not yet known when the German carmaker would unveil the car.

Next-gen Mercedes-Benz C-Class interior spied

Spy shots of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class have surfaced online. The pictures reveal the interiors of the car.

The spy shots show that the car will come equipped with a dual-screen layout similar to the next-generation S-Class. The screens on the C-Class are comparatively smaller than that of the S-Class. The interior features a screen for the digital instrument cluster and a landscape-oriented touchscreen infotainment system placed below the triple air vents in the centre console. The controls for the climate control are placed below the infotainment screen.

The centre console has a storage space. A cut-out for the head-up display can also be seen.

Powering the C-Class will be a range of petrol and diesel engines along with a plug-in hybrid variant. The car is expected to be unveiled sometime in 2020.

The screen behind the steering wheel (yes. I can't call it an instrumentation cluster) looks like someone glued on a chinese tablet from 2010. This of course may not be the final iteration but as the current trend goes, when in doubt, increase the size of the screen is what they will do :uncontrol

1. Apart from new center console, what I am liking is that the hazard warning light switch has moved back to the center of the console/switches and not hidden in some corner.
2. A hugeeee Heads-up display. What makes me wonder is, with display technologies advancing so fast, why don't the manufacturers replace the driver display with a full heads-up display. It increases safety and has a certain cool factor to it. For the rest, they can have 50 inch central display, I wouldn't give a bean about it.
3. A new steering wheel with slightly different buttons, seems to be more sporty and touch sensitive buttons on it.
4. Different LED light set-ups will be for sure availabl (as seen from the spy shots) and I looking forward to see the digital lighting technology take shape (in this and in the new s-class).

Chill:D. This is just a prototype vehicle and I believe even the instrument panel (Long tablet) won't have those ugly looking border frames.

And I hope, many have already seen the spy shots of next generation S-Class, with similar layout, but with bigger screens. (like those in Tesla). Seems that's the way forward.

Am I the only one here who is not thrilled about the direction merc is taking with their interior design? All I see here is a sea of shiny cheap looking black plastic. Can’t stand the thing. It just reminds you of the black back panel of your smart phone. Who needs that? I’d take the current 3 series interior any day.

I am literally working on this car now. Evaluating occupant safety and developing the seat structure for the 2nd seat row. And its cousin, the S206.

Tell us more... clap:

Thankfully, its competitor BMW and Audi chose not to go the shiny piano black interior route. The A/C vents seem to have a rounded bottom and top design which is new. I am not very convinced about the HVAC controls going touch/capacitive control route. Not practical for use while driving, I understand that the supportive argument is, "use the voice control to change A/C settings". I am not very convinced.

Vaidhy: Is there anything ground breaking coming up? (only what you are allowed to share).please:

Unfortunately there is not much I can share. :)

But what I can tell you is that the MRA2 is Daimler's answer to MQB platform of VW and will (in all probability) support electrification. The Occupant Safety is going to be class leading, which is a given, considering its a Daimler. The cushions and foams will have all possible auxilliaries including a cool fan mode to cool the seats down. I am not so sure about the dashboard area and front seats as I am not working on that. But it will be a very exciting car. Not just for the chauffeur driven. But also for someone who loves driving.

May be you can give us a detailed insight into how the cooled/heated seats are made and the latest generation of electric adjustments actually work. These 18 way or more adjustability with massaging function is for me quite a fancy witchcraft.
