Toyota working on new Corolla-based SUV

According to a media report, Toyota has started development of a new SUV. The sub-compact SUV is rumoured to be positioned below the C-HR in its global line-up.

The SUV is expected to be based on the TNGA-C (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform and could look more like an SUV rather than the coupe-like design of the C-HR. It is also likely to share its powertrain with the new Corolla.

This new Toyota SUV could be ready by mid-2020. It will head against the likes of the Nissan Juke and the Honda HR-V in the international market. It is unclear if Toyota is looking to offer it in India.

After the Yaris debacle, I think that is the only thing that is clear. Toyota will not bring anything new to India in the near future. We will have to make do with Innova crysta and Fortuner. Liva and Etios will go on till the cows come home in newer colour combinations.

Yaris was not new at all, it looked out dated the day in launched in India. In fact the model launched was already half way into its life cycle. Plus, Toyota priced it poorly.

If the same Yaris would have launched here by 2014 (as this 3rd gen model was available globally since 2013'ish) then it would still have worked.

The Yaris launched in India is not the same as 2013, it is the new version. IIRC it was globally launched in 2017 or 18.
