Jeep has showcased hybrid versions of the Renegade and Compass at the Geneva Motor Show. These plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are claimed to have lower CO2 emissions and better off-road capabilities.

The PHEV versions will feature a dedicated instrument cluster and a modified infotainment screen to display information regarding the hybrid system.

Both the Renegade and the Compass will be powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor. While the Renegade will develop between 187-237 BHP, the Compass will develop up to 237 BHP with a combination of the internal combustion engine and electric motor.

The engine will power only the front wheels and the electric motor will power the rear wheels independently. Jeep claims that the eAWD system offers better torque and that the system can adjust the torque accordingly in off-road conditions. They also claim that due to a lack of a prop shaft powering the rear wheels, the two axles can be independently controlled in a more effective manner compared to the current full-mechanical system.

Both the SUVs will have an electric range of 50 km with a top speed of 130 km/h in electric mode. The batteries can be charged by the engine or by the plug-in charging cable. 0-100 km/h times are claimed to be around 7 seconds for both the cars. The company has not released detailed specifications as well as timelines for the launch of the hybrid variants.

Jeep India is currently a 1-trick pony. For a second, I was just thinking how they could differentiate by offering a hybrid in the 20 - 25 lakh segment (I'm a big believer of hybrids in India). Then, I remembered how slow FCA India is - the Diesel AT still isn't here, despite customers in that segment loving their ATs . Sigh....

FCA announces details of Jeeps Compass and Renegade 4xe "First Edition" hybrid versions.

The "First Edition" version of the models will be available in two configurations: - Urban, based on the S finish, and Off-Road, based on the Trailhawk finish, both in the most powerful versions of 240 hp.

In both cases, the vehicle warranty was extended to 5 years in total and 8 years in total for the battery.

The new models will go on sale in the European market in the first half of 2020 in Longitude, Limited, S and Trailhawk configurations.

The two models bring enhanced safety (4x4 is always available) and low environmental impact (up to 50 km of autonomy in pure electricity and less than 50 g / km of CO2 in hybrid mode).

Jeep announced the official digital unveiling of its all-new Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe plug-in hybrid for the European market on July 20.
