Aston Martin reveals the Vantage AMR. It's a manual!

Aston Martin has revealed a new AMR version of the Vantage, which is 95kg lighter than the standard car and comes with a seven-speed manual box developed by Graziano.

Quote:
At 1499kg (dry), the AMR is a whopping 95kg lighter than the regular Vantage. The standard-fit carbon ceramic brakes help trim the fat, but most of the decrease is down to the ditching of the ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic. The new mechanical limited-slip differential is some 7.5kg lighter than the E-diff it replaces, too.

Torque drops slightly from 505lb ft to 461lb ft, which - along with the slower shifts - increases the 0-62mph time from 3.6 to four seconds dead. The top speed of 195mph, however, is identical to the automatic Vantage.

The new transmission features something called ‘AMShift’, which has an auto-blip function on downshifts. It also allows for full-throttle upshifts. For full manual ‘box heroism, though, it’ll be possible to switch all that off.

It’s a seven-speed unit built by Graziano, and it has a ‘dog-leg’ first gear, putting the cogs you’re going to use the most during fast driving in a nice H-pattern.

Aston Martin will only be making 200 Vantage AMRs, 59 of which will be in ‘Vantage 59’ spec with Stirling Green paint with Lime accents and a Dark Knight leather/Alcantara-trimmed cabin. Like the DBS 59, this version of the Vantage AMR has been created to celebrate the 60 years since Aston’s victory at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans with the DBR1.

Limited edition Vantage AMR with MT gearbox launched

Aston Martin has launched the Vantage AMR with 3 pedals ahead of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the second last race of the 2018-19 FIA World Endurance Championship. Only 200 units will be manufactured with prices starting at GBP 149,995 for the first 141 cars. The final 59 cars will be called the Vantage 59 and start at GBP 164,995.

The Vantage AMR is powered by an AMG-sourced 4.0-liter, twin turbo V8 engine rated at 503 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 625 Nm of torque @ 2,000-5,000 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed manual gearbox from Graziano, which features a dog-leg first gear. The company also claims that the manual gearbox makes the car 95 kg lighter compared to the standard Vantage. The 0-100 km/h time is claimed to be 4.0 seconds.

The car gets standard equipment like carbon ceramic brakes, driving modes, AMSHIFT, 20-inch alloy wheels shod in Pirelli P Zero tyres, 8-inch infotainment system, ABS with EBD, traction control and emergency brake assist.

The Vantage AMR will be offered in shades of Sabrio Blue, Onyx Black, China Grey or White Stone, while the Vantage 59 edition will be offered in the Stirling Green with Lime paint scheme, which commemorates the 1959 victory in 24 Hours of Le Mans with the DBR1. The Vantage 59 will also come equipped with matte black window surround and front grille, carbon fibre bonnet vents, mirror caps, roof and side gill, 20-inch black alloy wheels and a leather and Alcantara interior with lime stripe and stitching.

Hahaha! In an age of all sports car brands (including Ferrari) talking about how their AT gearboxes shift in milliseconds, this is such a breath of fresh air . 500 BHP & 600 Nm in an MT! Imagine the fun .

Also shows in the 0 - 100 time of 4 seconds though. An AT would do it faster, but then, where is the fun in that.

Re: Aston Martin reveals the Vantage AMR. It's a manual!

Aston Martin has revealed that it’s pulling the plug on the development of all future manual transmissions.

According to CEO Tobias Moers, the manual Aston Martin V8 Vantage AMR will be phased out ahead of next year’s facelift.

Quote:
Tobias Moers says, You have to realise sports cars have changed quite a bit, We did a few assessments about that car [manual] – you don’t need it anymore. And you have to maintain it with the new regulations, year-by-year with the emissions because it’s a bespoke powertrain. It makes no sense.
