BMW builds an X7 pickup truck
After huge illuminated grilles, BMW has built something a bit more easy on the eyes. A one off pickup-truck based on the X7. The Flagship SUV was converted into pick-up by the car-maker's apprentices to help mark annual BMW motorcycle event.
The conversion was put together by vocational trainees in cooperation with the Concept Vehicle Construction and Model Technology divisions at the BMW Munich plant based on BMW X7 xDrive40i and will be displayed at the BMW Motorrad Days.
Created to accommodate a BMW F 850 GS Touring bike, the BMW X7 ute took more than ten months to kit out the big SUV with adjustable suspension and a custom load bed.
The BMW X7 Pick-up offers a generous loading area. The length of the loading space varies from 140cm to 200cm. By using CFRP on roof components, rear doors and the rear lid, it was possible to further reduce weight by 200 kg vs. the standard production SUV, despite having a 10 cm longer body.
The project uses handcrafted teakwood cladding of the loading area upgrade and the parapet elements, while the handgrips and trim strips are made from SLS 3D pressure parts.
There is also a unique combination of honey-colored teakwood and the BMW Individual color Tanzanite Blue metallic – an exclusive navy blue finish that develops extra depth when exposed to sunlight.
