Kia has unveiled the next-generation K5 sedan, which is also called the Optima.



The car measures 4,905 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, 1,445 in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. The Optima comes with a tiger nose grille, 'heartbeat' LED DRLs, a coupe-like roofline, chrome trim above the window line, a black roof, and a shark fin antenna. It rides on 16-inch to 19-inch alloy wheels finished in black, light grey or dark grey. At the rear, it comes with a light bar connecting the two tail lights, chrome exhaust tips and a silver skid plate.

Kia hasn't revealed the interior of the new Optima and the engine specifications are also unknown.

The next-generation K5 (Optima) will go on sale in Korea in December 2019, followed by global markets.

A fine looking sedan. Was expecting some wacky styling which thankfully they din't do. Miles better looking than the current model and competition (Accord/Chevy Malibu/Nissan Altima/Camry) in my opinion. Makes me want to get one when it goes on sale in the UAE.

The Kia Optima is really a perfectly designed sedan.

As most people would be aware that this Optima is nothing but Kia's version of the Hyundai Sonata.

This Kia manages to maintain the beauty of the design without trying too hard & going outlandish the way Hyundai went with the 2020 Sonata seen here;

Looking at this makes me wish SUV segment takes a break and sedan comes back to life. There are some gorgeous looking cars out there in this segment and add this Optima to that list. That's one fantastic looker.

I usually don't like these coupe-style / GT'ish rear ends, but will admit that Kia has really got a great looking car there! Wow, they are absolutely killing it in design (love the Stinger too). Some of Kia's designs are better looking than Hyundai's (e.g. Seltos vs next-gen Creta).

Shows how far the Koreans have come and how tall their ambitions are. The Kia Optima earlier was a bargain-basement car which only sold to those with poor credit or rental fleets. And now, it's becoming an object of desire.

The Optima is a lovely looking sedan with majorly clean lines, which almost always makes it a desirable design which will age better than cars with futuristic designs which are the flash-in-the-pan kind. Case in point, the new Sonata that I see in this thread.

What exactly is Hyundai doing with their designs? Just beyond my comprehension. The last generation of Hyundai cars all had pretty nice designs which bordered on classic in many cases (the earlier gen Elantra for instance). But the recent gen cars from their stable are mostly abominations in the name of automotive design. The mind boggles, for instance, as to how the new Creta is designed the way it is, and who did the sign-off on the design brief.

End of the day it's a Hyundai/ Kia and who aspires to buy one? They are good at styling, design and pretty much that's it. All bling and no substance that's what they are known for. Their cars drive like washing machines. Love the clean, subtle, elegant designs of the Europeans.

Look at the Elantra, it feels more like a artists piece of work than a automotive engineers work. Those overly done headlamps, tail lamps and that cheap fluidic theme. And then look at the Jetta. Timeless. They both competed in the same category at the same price point. What would you buy?

In November 2019, Kia unveiled the next-generation K5 (Optima) sedan. Now, they have released more details on the car.



On the inside, the sedan gets a single-tone or dual-tone interior with cloth, synthetic leather or leather upholstery. It comes equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen head unit, an 8.0-inch head-up display, heated steering wheel and seats, ambient lighting, wireless phone charger and a 12-speaker BOSE surround-sound audio system.

Powering the Optima is a range of turbocharged and naturally aspirated petrol engines varying from 1.6-litres to 2.5-litres. All engines are paired to 6-speed or 8-speed automatic transmissions. The 2.5-litre turbocharged engine produces 286 BHP and 422 Nm and is paired to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Kia claims that the 0-100 km/h time for the car is 6.6 seconds. All-wheel drive is available in some variants. At a later date, hybrid variants of the Optima will also be available.



The car comes with 9 airbags, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), which enables drivers to move the car in and out of parking spaces autonomously with the key fob.

It is amazing how Kia is consistently able to push their design skills to next levels. Slowly they are reaching to the big 3 german levels in terms of exterior looks.
