re: Your preferred "one-car garage"

I am fan of SUV'S and just love the Ford Endeavour for its road presence and decent off road capabilities but Ford has disappointed us with its recent engine downgrade yet this would be my preferred 'one car garage' may be a pre- worshipped one for that massive 3.2 L powerhouse.

Re: Your preferred "one-car garage"

Only one car?

Heart says something from JLR, but head says this:

This will work everywhere - on-road, off-road, no road, overlanding - and it will keep running when everything else breaks down. Most importantly, it will carry my little world everywhere - people, bicycle, dog, etc.

Ditto for me. If the need is for a one car garage, the car has to be able to do everything. City, highway, on road, off road.

If should be reasonably quick, comfortable and abuse friendly to tackle any road conditions. This will be the beater car, luxury car and everything.

Hence it has to be a reliable SUV aka the Fortuner.

Re: Your preferred "one-car garage"

A one car garage will practically depend on ones budget and if we consider a realistic approach. In my current career scene and next 3-5 years time period it will be total absurd to write about Range rover's.

In practicality I would love to own a new Mahindra Thar with slight modifications of a hard top and front facing back seats. It can be a daily city commute, offroading, and highway travel.

If going for a used car than a Toyota Fortuner.

Re: Your preferred "one-car garage"

I am presuming we are looking for that single mythical car that does everything, to be used in India.

A one-car garage means it has to be a failsafe, abuse-friendly, easily repairable car. Can't have 3 weeks' (or even 3 days') down time in a service station while parts arrive. Or have it refusing to start at 3 am, with no help (or cab) around.

Based on just that one criterion, all the exotics and imports can be struck off the list.

A one-car garage means it has to be a car that can handle fast highways, crowded city roads, broken village roads and cross the occasional divider - in reasonable comfort for 4-5 people. Can't take it to the track on low profile tyres, only to have the sidewalls rip apart in a pothole on the way back home. Can't go off-roading or water-wading in it (during the monsoons) if it doesn't ensure that it will come back home on its own power.

Based on this, a low-slung sedan with low profile tyres gets booted off the list.

So how many cars does that leave us with, in India?

Re: Your preferred "one-car garage"

If money is not an object, my one car garage would consist of - AMG G63! Need I say more?
However, considering my current work and outlook for the near future, realistically, I can afford (hardly!) a Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI with an auto box!

Re: Your preferred "one-car garage"

Money no bar my ideal one car would be the Lamborghini Urus.Sports car performance and daily usability on our roads and that evocative sound track.Nothing beats it for a petrolhead in our country!

On other hand if I was abroad I'd say the E63 AMG Estate,it's all the car you would ever need.

If I am a bachelor and living abroad it would be a 911 turbo.

So the point is there is no perfect one car garage for a petrolhead. If money is no bar my ideal car garage would be the size of the Sultan of Brunei!!!

Is that personal experience you're speaking from?
You really should have bought another Scorpio, instead of buying the wrong car.

I wish I could afford a Scorpio 4wd again, or continue to keep that one car for a much longer time than the government allowed me to.

So I've always had a 2-car garage for as long as I can remember (and can afford to, in future). It's a very steep ask for me personally, to make do with just one car for my usage pattern. But the Scorpio came close.

Your preferred "one-car garage"

I am going for the Compass Trailhawk. After having now owned it for a year, it feels just so compact for the city, decent on the highway and extremely good on bad roads and has the fun element to take it off road.

It won't break the bank if an off roading goes wrong.

Re: Your preferred "one-car garage"

Toyota Landcruiser in its Lexus Avatar for me. Basically both are same but the Lexus LX have more premium and Luxury interiors. I know it cannot stand near the X7/GLS/RangeRover in terms of features. But I can keep this car for my life with regular maintenance.

But I am very happy with my current car, Acura MDX. It got a good 3.5 liter V6 with a 9 speed Auto gearbox which makes it a comfortable family car. So much so that my other car Nissan Altima is not used much these days in this lockdown period.

In India, I will settle with something like a Tata Hexa or Toyota Innova.

I would go for an M5 Competition or an Mercedes E63s .
They serve the purpose of track, highway and family trips. They can also be used for city runs, but with care. Sure that they drink a lot of fuel, but they are really mean performance machines. I didn't pick any SUV as I don't go off-road always, and can always rent a jeep or a Thar, if I would want to go off-road. Or I can buy a cheap classic or Thar for these runs, but that would make it a two car garage.

Hate the idea of just one car, but if I had to choose it would be the McLaren 675LT Spider. It does so many things brilliantly.
