Rumour: Lexus LBX, new entry-level SUV coming up

The Lexus LBX trademark suggest a New Baby SUV is in the making.

Quote:
The Japanese automaker is in the process of securing the LBX and Lexus LBX monikers. Applications have already been filed in Europe, on August 5, as well as in Switzerland and Israel
Could it be for a Lexus variant of the Toyota Yaris Cross?

Quote:
Nonetheless, they might be on to something, considering that a report dating back to mid-May claims that the Yaris Cross-based crossover could be dubbed the BX and should be kept away from North America.
Quote:
Slotting under the UX, it would set itself apart from the Toyota derivative by adopting a different design, featuring Lexus’ signature large spindle grille and familiar headlights. The cabin will, inevitably, be (for the most part) shared with the Yaris Cross, but it might also sport some exclusive Lexus parts, such as the infotainment system, and probably higher quality materials and more upholstery and trim options
Power could be provided by the Yaris Cross’ 1.5-liter electrified engine, which pumps out 114 HP (116 PS / 85 kW).

An F Sport variant might be introduced too, with more power and all-wheel drive.
In this case, a set with engine 1.8 with 140 horsepower and CVT gearbox or even a hybrid set of 181 horses with 2.0 Dynamic Force.

They already have Lexus UX series launched in USA. It competes with the likes of Mercedes GLA and BMW X2. These are nothing but raised hatchbacks.

The long-awaited 2024 Lexus BX will reportedly make its world premiere this May with the automaker’s FWD TNGA-B platform as well as a hybridized 1.5-liter engine, which delivers over 114 hp. In addition, the CUV will serve as an indirect replacement for the compact CT hatchback.

Positioned below the UX and serving as the new entry-level model, the tiny crossover is an indirect replacement for the defunct CT hatchback. It rides on the same GA-B platform as its Toyota sibling but with different styling to better fit Lexus' design language both inside and out.

The LBX is 4190 millimeters (165 inches) long, 1825 mm (71.8 in) wide, and 1545 mm (60.8 in) tall, while having a wheelbase of 2580 mm (101.5 in). Riding on 18-inch wheels as standard equipment, the petite Lexus is actually slightly bigger than the Yaris Cross and tips the scales at 1,280 kilograms (2,821 pounds). It will be offered with a choice between front- and all-wheel drive, with all configurations coming exclusively with a continuously variable transmission
Quote:
At the heart of the LBX is a hybrid powertrain based around a three-cylinder, 1.5-liter gasoline engine. It produces a combined output of 134 horsepower (100 kilowatts) and a maximum torque of 185 Newton-meters (136 pound-feet). It's enough electrified punch for a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) run in 9.2 seconds and a maximum towing capacity of 750 kilograms (1,653 pounds).
It's scheduled to enter production by the end of this year and go on sale in Europe along with additional markets in early 2024.
