Ford has reportedly told it's North American dealers that a 4 door Mustang is in pipeline. The launch period is not clarified as of now but rumours say Ford wants to pitch this one against Panamera's lower models and Audi's A7

With the electric Mustang crossover, Ford has shown that it is willing to dilute the Mustang brand name & use it for non-muscle cars. I think a 4-door Mustang makes a lot of sense because:

- 2-door cars are rapidly declining in terms of popularity

- The 2-door Mustang is a daily driver in the USA and 4-doors will bring it incredible practicality. More people will use it as a daily

- Ford has abandoned small cars in the USA and could definitely do with higher non-SUV sales. Ford's non-SUV portfolio is shrinking & how!

- Everyone else is doing 4-doors too, even in the more exotic stratospheres. Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc.

I see that Ford is on a reinventing path in their home country. The Bronco, new F150, Mach E – the portfolio is diverse and fast evolving. And with this 4-door iteration plan purists may feel the pain, but I think this will help in the longevity of the Mustang brand.

Ford is doing a Porsche-style repositioning with the Mustang by floating it as a brand of it's own spawning it's own sports oriented range - Coupe-Sedan, SUV, Coupe, Convertible.
Makes sense to bank on the Brand loyalty.

They originally thought of making a 4-door sedan and a 2-door station wagon along with the coupe and convertible but only the latter two made it to production.



A low slung, 4-door, V8 powered (or all electric like the Taycan) Mustang would anyday be a better alternative than the all electric crossover that Ford notoriously wants us to call it a Mustang, the Mustang Mach-E (Great car, wrong name).

A four door Mustang may not be able to go toe to toe against a Panamera or any of the Italian marques but can definitely give Ford a competitor to the Dodge Charger and the Kia Stinger

A four door sedan that's practical for folks with families while still being a lot of fun when you flex your right foot.

This looks like a direct competitor to the Dodge Charger. It's a profitable niche and as ford is dumping cars going forward, this is the kind of product they need.
