Lotus teases new ‘Type 131’ sports car

‘Type 131’ Sports Car will replace the Elise, Exige and Evora. With the three models ending production in 2021, the successor could be the final internal-combustion engine Lotus ever develops.

All-new sports car to rival the iconic Porsche 911 and set the blueprint for Lotus's future models.

Quote:
The fabled British brand has signed a "powertrain partnership" for what will be an engine option new to the company. Details are scarce, but it'll be "highly efficient, use cutting edge technology and be tuned to help deliver that distinctive Lotus experience." The Emira will be an all-new vehicle by adopting a dedicated aluminum-intensive sports car architecture claimed to be a "massive step-change technically."

Re: Lotus teases new ‘Type 131’ sports car

2022 Lotus Emira revealed: Lotus' last internal combustion sports car.

It will initially launch as a limited-edition First Edition model that uses the brand's Toyota-sourced supercharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, the same unit found in the Evora GT, and it'll be offered with either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual. In summer 2022 the Emira will gain a second engine option: a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 sourced from Mercedes-AMG. This motor is the same one used by cars like the CLA45.

The wraps are finally off the Emira
The details are in the article reference in the link below announced 45 minutes ago

My first experience fortunately with Lotus engineering happened when a colleague of mine in the late 70s, had a Lotus Elan Convertible. (Yellow iconic)
I was just a novice driver barely with 2/3 years of driving experience.

Having been allowed a very short drive the experience of it fuelled my passion for sports engines/power and Lotus Engineering forever earned my respect and awe.

The need for speed seeds was sown by this iconic motor and has remained a passion ever since. Sadly despite being an aspirational car with superb engineering, Mazda took a leaf right out of Lotus's book and launched the MX5 but priced extremely competitively.

The MX5 has attained iconic status and went on to be a nail in the coffin of Lotus in the mini convertible field.

Have often have wondered why both makers haven't ventured into India as yet?

But am so glad to see Lotus's new marvel the Emira in the fold.

Some pics follow as teasers but enthusiasts see more in article that's linked in the quote above:
