In India today, there is no SUV in the ₹50 Lakh to ₹65 Lakh range. One end we have the Endeavour/Fortuner and on the other end the smaller GLC/X3 (GLA/X1 are more crossover-ish than SUVs). We seriously need something in between! Both the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade are perfect candidates for this ₹50 Lakh bracket. They are larger than the Fortuner/Endeavour, with better overall space and at the same time loaded with features to the brim.

Only grouse is neither will many people like to pay ₹50 Lakh for a Hyundai/Kia nor will both of them be long-lasting/abuse-friendly like the Fortuner/Endeavour are.
50L is way too much. The car starts from $32K in the US which is almost 21L, close to the price of a top model Creta.

25-27L will be a fair price for this, however our crazy tax structures won't allow for it. I am sure the folks at Hyundai would have done their math and kept this on the back-burner

Toyota is the KING that has been doing it for the longest time. Yaris and LC have been sold from the same shop floor.

It's just that India has been getting the Toy(ota)s.

I got to see Telluride in person during my last visit and is quite a looker. A lot of folks in East US, don't prefer much of Asian brands, especially when it comes to large burly SUV and trucks, but Telluride is being appreciated. Despite Toyota being well know, they were unable to push their LC's and other large SUV, but Kudos to KIA for shaking the SUV segment in such a short span! USA or India, In current times all a manufacturer need is a good SUV to be back in game.

The Notion of “Doing a Creta/Seltos” is partially correct.

Yes, the two cars share the chassis and a lot of parts. But unlike the Creta/Seltos which don’t have any noteworthy competitors, the Palisade/Telluride have a lot of competitors like Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Chevy Traverse, Ford Explorer etc.

That being said, they have become very popular in the last 2 years.

Somehow I feel that won’t happen. Strangely, Honda & Hyundai have been absent in the large SUV/Pickup segment as they don’t have any body-on-frame designs. I’m sure the decision to not build the chassis is a business one and not due to technical limitations.

Re: Doing a "Creta / Seltos" in the USA | The Hyundai Palisade & Kia Telluride's stupendous success

A little off-topic, but Hyundai and Kia's product strategy for the lowest 2 SUV segments in USA isn't the same as the higher segments.

1 segment below Palisade and Telluride : Santa Fe and Sorento

2 segments below : Tucson and Sportage

3 segments below : Kona and Niro

4 segments below : Only Kia offers the Seltos in the US. Hyundai doesn't offer the Creta.

5 segments below : Only Hyundai offers the Venue in the US. Kia doesn't offer the Sonet (probably not to steal sales from the Soul).

Cheers,

Hyundai has already launched their pickup "Santa Cruz" in the US, based on the Tucson.

However, it is not a full-size pick-up and does not have a body-on-frame construction.

Kia has topped JDPOWER dependability ratings for consecutive years -

IMHO, with far more features and tech that Kia offers over legacy Toyota, there current reliability/dependability rankings are even more praiseworthy... certainly an underestimated brand for the turn around they have shown in the recent years....

Hyundai is having a hard time meeting demand for the Palisade

The Palisade is currently built at Hyundai’s Ulsan Plant 4 in Korea. This site builds between 6,000 and 7,000 units for the U.S. market each month, but according to Korea’s Newsis, U.S. demand sits at between 8,000 and 9,000 units annually.
