Geneva Motor Show to be held in Qatar from 2022

The organizers of the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) have announced a new biennial car show that will be held in Doha as part of a tie-up with Qatar Tourism.

The new event, which will be known as the 'Qatar Geneva International Motor Show' will be held in Doha from either 2022 or 2023. Geneva will continue to host the event on an annual basis. Moreover, the 2022 event is on schedule and will be held from February 19-27. The "full concept" for the show's new format will be presented at Geneva in February.

The Geneva Motor Show is one of the oldest car expositions. The first event was held in 1905. The 2020 and 2021 events had to be cancelled due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Europe's biggest motor show was set to return in February 2022, having not been held since 2019 as a result of the pandemic, but "industry-wide issues relating to the Covid-19 pandemic" have prompted its cancellation yet again.
Quote:
The announcement comes shortly after showrunners announced a new partnership with Qatar Tourism, which will spawn a biennial spin-off motor show in Doha from either autumn 2022 or 2023. The latter date is more likely now, given the main Swiss event's cancellation, but no official announcement has been made regarding the Doha edition.

Re: Geneva Motor Show to be held in Qatar from 2022

The Geneva International Motor Show scheduled to take place in February has been cancelled for the fourth year running.

They said they would focus instead on a complementary motor show, the Geneva International Motor Show Qatar, due to be held in Doha later in 2023.

Quote:
Due to the uncertainties in the global economy and geopolitics, as well as the risks related to the development of the pandemic, the organisers have decided to focus exclusively on the planning of the event in Doha in 2023

Re: Geneva Motor Show to be held in Qatar from 2022

Visited the Geneva motor show couple of weeks back held at Doha Qatar. Got to spend close to an hour. The event was superbly organized. Check-in was easy and on week days it was totally free . Nice crowd even on a week day. Some pictures.

Beautiful Entrance

First up VW stall. Would have loved the GTI in RED.

This was a star attraction. If ever they launch in India would really want to get one. Family loved it.

Chinese manufacturers were attracting a lot of crowd. Even Vietnamese VinFast had a nice stall.

The cars gathered lot of interest and had very neutral designs. Nothing spectacular, but good looking.

This was an eyecandy.

The Lambo Lanzador looked horrible in person. Something about the side profile was not correct. Too high ground clearance and too little height, made it look funny.

Did not bother to check Jaguar, Land rover / Mercedes / Audi. All were boring. Doha streets had more interesting cars. BMW had nice set of electric range. So checked them out. No pictures as it was crowded. BMW i7 - at your face design. The F01 7 series was regal and sleek. Family liked Kia EV6 to BMWs.

It was a nice expo but disappointed. Sad that none of the Indian manufactures participated . Tata Safari facelift and XUV700 would not have looked out of place at the expo, sigh!

Geneva Motor Show 2024.

Considered the most prestigious trade fair in Europe, the organisers expect more than 300,000 visitors to come and admire the exceptional models between 26 February and 3 March 2024. While some manufacturers have already announced their arrival, others have decided to skip this event.
While Groupe Renault (Renault, Dacia, Alpine) will take part in this edition, which will mark the 100th anniversary of the automotive event, four German manufacturers have already indicated that they will not attend.

- BMW, Mercedes, Audi and BMW absent

Quote:
Spokespeople for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen said they would not be in attendance. Skoda, Cupra and Porsche have not yet made a decision, but according to the German magazine "the probability of participation is low
Ticketing for the Geneva Motor Show is scheduled to open in December 2023. To date, prices for the 2024 edition have not been disclosed.

Re: Geneva Motor Show to be held in Qatar from 2022

Just eight auto brands will attend this year's Geneva motor show.

Quote:
This year's show, scheduled between February 26 and March 3, will host only two major automotive brands from Europe and not a single of Japan’s big automakers. Renault and Dacia are the largest manufacturers from the Old Continent that will be represented among the participating brands. The other brands will be BYD, Isuzu, Lucid, MG Motor, Microlino, and Pininfarina.
The dwindling number of participants reflects a broader trend where major automakers are choosing alternative platforms, digital unveilings, or regional events to showcase their latest offerings. Industry insiders attribute this decline to the rising costs associated with participating in such events, coupled with the increasing influence of digital communication channels.
