2023 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 to be powered by a 4-cylinder hybrid unit; ditches twin-turbo V8

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 has been spied testing in Germany. The performance variant of the GLC SUV can be seen wrapped heavily in camouflage, revealing little to no details of the upcoming model.

The spy images do showcase the Pan-Americana grille at the front, flanked by a set of updated headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, large multi-spoke alloy wheels on the side and the quad-exhausts at the rear.

The interior of the upcoming AMG GLC 63 is yet to be revealed. Reports do suggest that the SUV will feature the large free-standing 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, along with the 11.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment system; both of which can be seen on the latest iteration of the C-Class sedan.

However, the most significant update in the upcoming 2023 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 is the new powertrain option. Reports suggest that Mercedes could replace the old 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a smaller, 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain.

This new hybrid powertrain will come with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine paired with a rear-mounted electric motor, along with a 6.1 kWh battery pack. The combined powertrain is said to produce over 644 BHP.

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 is expected to be globally unveiled late next year, although the German carmaker is yet to announce an official timeline.
