1992 Acura NSX clocks 6.43 lakh km with just 2 major mechanical issues

Sean Dirks is the owner of a 1992 Acura NSX sports car that has clocked over 6.43 lakh km (400,000 miles). While many sports car/supercar owners actively avoid raking up the kilometre reading on their odometer, Sean uses his as a daily driver.

Purchased in the early 2000s from a previous owner, Sean has managed to clock 5.31 lakh km (330,000 miles) in the last seventeen years of ownership. The car is used for all purposes, be it travelling to the nearest store or going out on 800-mile long road trips.

During his seventeen-year-long ownership, the NSX has had only 2 major mechanical issues. First is the failure of the snap rings which damage the car's transmission (a known problem in early-production versions). Sean replaced these damaged snap rings with a tighter gear set from the NSX-R.

Later at around 380,000 miles, the Acura NSX went in for a full suspension overhaul, replacing the worn-out struts, springs and bushes. However, Sean re-built the suspension to stock specifications to preserve the car's "reliability and daily drivability".

The 1992 Acura NSX has also not had any significant modifications. Apart from the wheels, exhaust and a few other updates, the sports car remains identical to how it left the factory.

Talking about the sports car itself, the Acura NSX was Honda's first supercar. It was meant to be a direct rival to the Italians, such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. The sports car came powered by a 3.0-litre V6 producing 272 BHP and 284 Nm, with manual and automatic transmission options.

What kind of weather conditions was the car kept in?

Ask him to come to India and the story will see its climax.

IF the car survives the road and rain conditions, the NGT rule will shoot it dead!

Had he used his vehicle in India, He would have gone through:

1. 8-10 Sets of Clutch & Flywheel
2. 8-10 Sets of Suspension Struts & Bushes
3. Several Sets of Steering Columns, Gears
4. 2-3 Rebuilds of the Engine

The high performance Hondas from the early 90s and 2000s were bullet proof and lots of fun. These include the NSX, Acura Integra Type r, Honda S2000 and even the Civic Type r. These could rev upto 9000 rpm!

The unmolested ones have become collectibles as it can be seen on BaT.
