Kudos to Mike there!! They would have repeated the same thing with McLaren they did with Sauber. It's all half hearted isn't it. They come in with big aspirations to win quickly with a revolving door attitude. Don't give enough time, nor plan the financial game properly. Look at what has happened in Formula E. BMW, Porsche, Audi quit. And all this with a lot of standardized parts(battery from Williams advanced technologies) and lower cost. I mean I don't understand what do they actually want. Too unstable decision making considering they big OEMs

Re: Audi buys McLaren Group & secures Formula 1 entry. EDIT: McLaren denies

Well, if these rumours are true then the only good side I could see is Mclaren F1 team getting an influx of cash coming their way which they could definitely use for teams R&D to compete against Red Bull and Mercedes cause seriously other teams are struggling against the two giants.

Also, this marks Audi’s entry to the Motorsport.

Both of them already exist. Just not in the form factor that you are looking for..

McLaren had v10 F1 cars and has an all electric SUV (for racing in the Extreme E series).

New reports indicate "Audi raises offer for stake in McLaren's F1 unit".

-Audi raises offer for stake in McLaren's Formula One racing unit

- Audi wants to first take a stake in McLaren’s Formula One unit before possibly investing in the brand as a second step

Quote:
Audi has raised its offer to gain a foothold in British supercar maker McLaren to 650 million euros ($718 million) from 450 million euros

Last week sources said VW Group was ready to give Audi and Porsche the go-ahead to become part of F1 at a meeting this week.
Meanwhile BMW and McLaren has reported signed a memorandum of understanding with the automaker on March 24 about the joint development of an architecture for electric sports cars.

The agreement is not binding and could be voided by a deal with Audi.

Re: Audi buys McLaren Group & secures Formula 1 entry. EDIT: McLaren denies

Rumors indicate Audi might be sealing the deal with the Sauber F1 team (also known as the Alfa Romeo team), with the Audi team potentially entering F1 by 2026.

Rumor 1, 2

Quote:
According to F1 Journalist Joe Saward, Audi and Alfa Romeo Sauber have agreed on a deal allowing the German team to enter F1. The deal, worth $450 Million, means Audi will acquire the team.

VW group have confirmed they will not partake in the operations of the team. It will be an entire Audi car with engines being built by Audi Sport GmbH in Germany.

The whisper is that the deal is worth around $450 million and will see Audi acquiring 75 percent of the shares in the team, valuing it at $600 million. The sale is conditional on the technical rules of F1 for 2026 is confirmed by the FIA but will be a phased deal over three years with Audi taking control of the first 25 percent of the shares in 2023, another 25 percent in 2024 and a third 25 percent in 2025.
This seems to be a separate track than what Porsche is collaborating with Red Bull to be a part of that team.

Bottas is going no where now with Audi as a factory team behind him.

In other news Honda might buy out alpha tauri in 2026.

If I'm not wrong, the Audi group wanted Seb at the wheel.

If Alpha Tauri goes to Honda and Porsche seals the deal with Red Bull. It's going to be an exciting year provided, everyone puts their right foot.

Off Topic: anyone else felt that 600 million is a steal for the Sauber team when compared to some of the unicorns operating in our country selling expensive educational videos and content? Sauber could be actually producing some technology which is invaluable as a reference for future car development although I totally understand this is mostly done for the PR than anything else.

Why don’t you look up Ferraris market valuation and compare it with some of the useless unicorns here…it will blow your mind.
