Ford has revealed the all-new fifth-generation Mondeo sedan, slated to go on sale in China first.

Unfortunately, Ford doesn't provide information about what’s happening under the hood, though the ‘245’ badge at the back suggests there’s a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged gas engine on the front axle. If this is indeed the case, the inline-four develops 245 horsepower (180 kilowatts), likely channeled to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic.

Thanks for sharing this interesting scoop! The car is a stunner! I wonder if Ford would have considered this for the Indian market if it weren't for the exit.

Also, a rather surprising strategy that Ford has ruled out the European model for this market. Ford cars too enjoy their fanfare in EU countries and in fact I used to drive a used Ford when I was student years ago in Germany.

Either ways, China seems to be getting the very best versions of cars, wish some manufacturers pay more heed and start giving India the same treatment.

Would have been a good success if launched in India... The only condition being sensible pricing

The answer to 'why not enough attention to India' questions is mostly to do with macro economics.

Every Chinese now, on an average, earns 5 times as much as an Indian.


China is also a much less unequal society than India. The much larger wealth is distributed more evenly in China, which gives it a bigger base from which such cars find a market.

While we can debate the numbers, what seems beyond doubt is the vast lead China has over India, which is not going to narrow down in a hurry.

That's such an awesome-looking sedan. Beautiful interior looks spacious and innovative looking exterior with those XUV700 like door handles. IMO, just how a sedan should look in 2022.

In the sedan's heyday in India, Mondeo was an unsuccessful rival to the Accord. How the tables have turned! this car makes the current US Accord look obsolete. Also, China has arrived, and how! Mondeo was a European sales star but now has been quickly overshadowed by SUVs. Now, its continues in China for a new generation but possible axed in the Europe as well as in the US (it was rebadged as Fusion sedan there)
