Jeep has launched a mild-hybrid version of the Compass in the UK. The interesting thing about this SUV is that it can run in pure electric mode as well.



The Compass MHEV comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The IC engine produces 128 BHP and 240 Nm and is paired with an electric motor that has an output of 20 BHP and 55 Nm. The same e-Hybrid powertrain is available in the Renegade as well.



According to the company, the Compass mild-hybrid can run in pure EV mode in stop-go traffic. Electric power can also be deployed while parking. That said, Jeep hasn't revealed the distance it can cover in pure electric mode.

In India, the Jeep Compass comes with two engine options. It includes a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine.

Even a 25 KM range will be a boon on indian city roads. Anyday better than the "Micro hybrids" we have in our country . Its a costly joke on the people of this country.

I just checked out the electric range for the 4Xe. The car can run 50 kilometers on battery charge. The front electric motor is also a generator when needed. The rear motor only to drive the rear wheels.

I drove a Toyota Auris Hybrid in Scandinavia - 3,300 KM, 20 days, mostly non-highway running with plenty of slopes. When starting from rest the car would run on battery with the engine silent for a few KM, after which the engine would start. For parking, or moving around in a 30 KM zone in a small town, the engine was not needed.

As to mileage - 23.6KMPL !

Jeep Compass hybrid that makes 52.6 km /l is confirmed for Brazil.

Under the hood, the Compass 4xe brings 1.3 turbo charged four-cylinder engine, but it is not yet known whether the SUV will be flex or just gasoline. As it will be imported from Europe rather than being produced in Goiana, Pernambuco, it is more likely that it does not use ethanol, at least for now.

Combined with the 1.3 turbo is a 60 hp electric motor that moves only the rear axle. Thus, the Compass has 4×4 traction differently: the combustion engine moves the front and the electric to the rear, but they can work at the same time or separately. The final power is 190 hp or 240 hp, but for Brazil should come the most powerful.

The 11.4 kWh batteries give the Hybrid Compass a range of 50 km in 100% electric mode. Because it is a plug-in hybrid, it can have its batteries charged externally. The Jeep declares 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, or 2 seconds faster than the Compass flex and 3.4 seconds faster than diesel.

More powerful and stronger petrol engine will make the diesel Compass meaningless.

Already it is known that Jeep's midsize SUV is about to undergo a significant transformation in its engine offering in the first half of 2024.

The highlight, of course, will be the 2.0 turbo gasoline engine. It even arrives to mark ground and retire the current 2.0 turbodiesel, following in the footsteps of the Jeep Renegade.

The new 2.0 GME turbocharged gasoline engine, shared with the Ram Rampage, promises 272 hp of power and 40.9 kgfm of torque — characteristics that cater to both the public in search of sportiness and those who want agility in everyday life. The nine-speed transmission with all-wheel drive makes things even better.

In terms of pricing, don't expect any major changes. The new versions are likely to be in the range of $230,000 to $270,000.
