Audi has been testing its new flagship SUV, the Q9. The car's unveiling is expected to take place sometime towards the end of 2022.



Ahead of its unveil, the Q9 has been spotted undergoing tests. The spy images show the SUV wrapped in heavy camouflage, although certain design elements are visible. This includes the final production-spec LED headlamp and LED tail lights. The images also show the signature radiator grille and the air dam on the lower part of the front bumper.



While the interiors of the new Audi Q9 are yet to be showcased, the car is expected to offer more space than the Q8. According to reports, the Q9 is based on an updated version of the MQB platform which also underpins the Volkswagen Atlas.



Engine options include a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol unit producing 235 BHP or a slightly more powerful 3.6-litre, V6 engine developing 276 BHP. Both are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Reports suggest that the new Audi Q9 is being developed specifically for the Chinese market, with no launch plans for European or US markets.

Really interesting scoop, thank you for sharing!

The Q9 is an example in the flesh of just how important Asian markets are for most of the brands these days. I just hope that EU/US manufacturers pay heed to the Indian market in a similar way. While I can't comment much on the Q9, there are special iterations for the Chinese market made by EU brands that consumers would absolutely drool over in India especially the long-wheelbase options that are specifically made for the Chinese market.

The design is like a blank template. Change the 4 rings to Ford logo and you have the new Escape or Explorer.
