California to ban sales of new petrol cars by 2035

The decision will very likely speed a wider transition to electric vehicles because many other states (in the US) follow California’s lead on tailpipe emissions.

While this was an executive order passed in 2020, California will put the legislation to vote this Thursday.

This is a big move by one of the most progressive and modern states anywhere. A complete ban on new Gasoline cars by 2035 will be a big change for the state, which is so dependant on cars to run daily life for most people. Public transit is pathetic and there are no good metro railway systems even in big cities like LA or San Jose.

They have also set interim deadlines such as 35% of all vehicles sold by 2026 will have to be zero emission vehicles! This a huge change as CA is the largest auto market in the US. This is the first major government anywhere in the world to go to 100% zero.emission vehicles!

Where CA goes, the world generally follows. This has been proven on many occasions like carpool lanes, solar panels at homes etc.

They should have started from 2030, it is very late by the year 2035. The market will be shifting mostly to EVs by 2030, these bans are anyway helpful to move few petrolheads who refuse to change.
