Ssangyong, previously owned by Mahindra & Mahindra, was acquired by KG Group last year. Now, the new owners are looking to rename the car brand altogether.

According to reports, KG Group chairman, Kwak Jae-sun, confirmed that the brand Ssangyong will be renamed to "KG Mobility" sometime later this year, with all its product receiving the KG logo. Kwak stated that while the "Ssangyong Motor" has a good fandom, there is also a painful image attached. The Group chairman confirmed that going forward all Ssangyong cars will come out under the name of KG.



Once the name change gets the green light, the company will undergo a complete marketing overhaul, including a new brand logo and corporate identity. Reports also suggest that while the name change will be an extremely difficult situation, it does signal a potential shift in the brand's business strategy from a traditional carmaker to a mobility firm.

KG Group is also yet to confirm if the name change will also come with a completely new product portfolio, or build on the ambitions of becoming a global brand. Ssangyong currently operates in a few international markets like Australia & Europe.

The South Korean brand was originally founded in 1954, with the first Ssangyong-branded vehicles coming in the 1980s. Over the course of its history, the company has been owned by multiple other automakers including Daewoo, SAIC and Mahindra & Mahindra, before being bought by KG Group.

Ssangyong failed in its final school exams and is being readmitted to Kindergarten (KG). The name says it all.

And those at Mahindra must have had a good party for the good riddance of the Albatross hanging around the necks for years.

Great news for SsangYong as it posts first profit in six years.

Six months after getting a new parent company, SsangYong has reported a profit for the first time six years.

SsangYong sales globally increased 41.7 per cent last year compared to the year prior – amid a 59 per cent increase in sales for the fourth quarter (October to December) of 2022 compared with the same period in 2021.

Of the 33,502 SsangYong vehicles sold in the last three months of 2022, almost 12,000 were the brand's new Torres mid-size SUV, which only launched in June 2022.

It was around the same time the ownership of SsangYong switched from India's Mahindra to South Korea's KG Group – after the company declared bankruptcy in December 2020.

From now, all SsangYong cars will come out to the world under the name of KG. Even with the name change, SsangYong Motor’s history will not change and [the company] will have the same conditions.

KG Mobility launches The New TIVOLI.

The new Tivoli's 1.5 petrol turbo engine has a maximum output of 163ps/5000~5500rpm and a maximum torque of 26.5kg·m/1500~4000rpm, while the 1.6 petrol engine has a maximum output of 126ps/6000rpm and a maximum torque of 15.8kg·m/4600rpm, with combined fuel consumption of 12.0km/l and 11.6km/l, respectively. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission from AISIN AW.

The New Tivoli (including Air) is equipped with Active Safety Deep Control, which helps to drive safely. Starting with the Emergency Brake Assist System (AEB), a total of 14 Safe Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) were applied, including △Forward Collision Warning (FCW), △Lane Departure Warning (LDW), △Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), △Distracted Driving Warning (DAW), △Safe Distance Warning (SDW), △Forward Vehicle Departure Warning (FVSW), and △Center Lane Keeping Assist (CLKA).

The New Tivoli (including Air) has the longest five-year and 100,000km warranty in Korea.
