Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff's low-mileage 1990 Ferrari F40 listed for sale in the UK

UK's Tom Hartley JNR dealership has listed a low-mileage, recently restored 1990 Ferrari F40 for sale, belonging to Mercedes-AMG F1 Team Principal Toto Wolff.

The supercar is said to have run just 3,440 miles (5,536 km) and is said to have been given a complete overhaul by Autofficina Bonini Carlo S.r.l. restoration shop in Italy. The car has also received its Ferrari "Red Book" Classiche certification which confirms it has the original chassis, body panels, engine & transmission. The F40 is said to be carrying chassis no. 087007 and is said to be one out of just 27 examples originally delivered in Spain.

This though isn't the first time Toto Wolff has sold a part of his collection. In 2021, the Mercedes F1 team boss sold three of his cars, including a LaFerrari Aperta, an Enzo and a Mercedes-AMG SL65 Black Series, through Tom Hartley JNR. Back then, reports suggested that the reason for Wolff selling his cars was that he didn't have the time to drive them.

The UK dealership doesn't list the asking price of the Ferrari F40, although considering its iconic status and adding Wolff's ownership, it is expected to get quite a premium over the standard.

I would assume around the $ 4 m mark, considering a similar one sold for $ 3.2 m last month. It's ridiculous how little mileage these cars have done and how mileage affects prices. Two months ago, a car with 48k km went for $ 1.6 m, or half of the low-mileage one.

Imagine owning a supercar, just to have it parked in your garage.

But when I notice the correlation between low milage and high resale value, I realise, it is about investment and not the joy of motoring. Like selling of a dog instead of thoroughly enjoying yourself in your pet's company.

Not my cup of tea.

I think we should move this to the T-BHP Classifieds and let Toto know

Honestly it is a crime to keep these kind of classics at a low milage and use it strictly as an investment. Whoever is buying this one has really got something quite special considering it comes with a Ferrari "Red Book" Classiche certification.

Lewis' wages are so high, that the boss has to sell off a few trinkets!

Jokes apart, that's a fantastic specimen of a car on the market. Alas, common folk could only dream of driving it themselves!

It's very strange, this cycle. By the time you have the money to buy your childhood dream cars, you're working so hard and travelling so much that any time away is reserved for family. Or of course, you're too old to enjoy it properly. Toto is on the road more than 200 days in a year, so I suppose he has little time to enjoy this yet. Still, it must break his heart to sell his childhood icons, even if he's likely made a massive profit on them.
