Mercedes to axe most coupes, wagons & SUV-coupes from its lineup in the coming years

Mercedes announced last year that it plans to drastically resize its massive product lineup and focus on more profitable top-end luxury offerings. However, at that time the carmaker did not go into specifics on the future of any of its current model lineups.

Now, a media report has come out with details explaining in detail which Mercedes models are expected to be discontinued and which of them will continue to exist. As per the report, of the 33 body styles currently offered by Mercedes-Benz between Europe & US, only 14 will survive.

Going into details, the report states that most Coupes & Wagons will be discontinued. Mercedes will axe the C- and E-Class Coupe & Convertibles and replace them with the CLE. Mercedes will discontinue the CLS, while the AMG GT 4-Door will also face the axe soon after. The German carmaker will introduce the next-gen GLC & GLE, however, both of them will be phased out when they reach the end of their lifecycle.

Reports mentioned that the C-Class Estate will be discontinued in 2028, while the E-Class Estate will be gone by 2030. The next-generation CLA, which is said to debut in 2025, will be the last model to offer a Shooting Brake variant.

However, the media report also mentions that Mercedes-Benz does have a number of new models in the pipeline. These include a brand-new four-door coupe set to arrive in 2026, as well as an ultra-luxury version of the SL from Maybach. Mercedes is also said to offer a rugged GLG SUV in 2026 and the possibility of introducing a Maybach V-Class.

Mercedes' Mythos sub-brand, which sits above the already luxurious Maybach, is also expected to introduce a G-Class-based pickup and a modern-day Gullwing.

Reports also stated that future Mercedes EVs could come with up to 150 kWh battery packs, with 500 miles (805 km) of WLTP range. These batteries will also have DC fast-charging capabilities of up to 270 kW.

Re: Mercedes to axe most coupes, wagons & SUV-coupes from its lineup in the coming years

Looks like a new trend with the Germans. BMW is on the same path and almost got rid of the "GT" versions of their various cars here in India and I think it will be applicable worldwide too.

I'm not a fan of SUV's in coupe attire however I love Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, especially the AMG trim. Looks dope!
