Maybach’s first plug-in hybrid sedan gets nearly twice the all-electric range of a Toyota Prius Maybach, the more premium sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, has just unveiled its first plug-in hybrid model in the form of the S580e.
The new Mercedes-Maybach S580e carries forward a design similar to the standard models, with very few discreet changes. This includes a hidden charger port door on the left side, blue accents in the headlights and a battery charging indicator on the instrument cluster. Maybach hasn't revealed any other changes made to the plug-in hybrid variant. The luxury sedan is said to carry forward the features, tech and opulence from the standard trims.
The powertrain on the Mercedes-Maybach S580e comes in the form of a 3.0-litre inline-6 cylinder petrol engine producing 367 BHP and 500 Nm. This is mated to an electric motor which churns out 150 BHP and 440 Nm, translating to a combined power and torque output of 510 BHP and 750 Nm, respectively. Maybach claims the S580e is capable of reaching a top speed of 250 km/h and sprint from 0 - 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
The Maybach S580e comes with a 28 kWh battery pack, allowing for an electric-only range of 100 km (WLTP cycle). The sedan comes standard with an 11 kW charger, with DC fast charging capabilities of up to 60 kW. The fast charger allows the batteries on the S580e to charge from 0 - 100% in just 30 minutes.
Reports state that China will be the first market for the Maybach S580e, followed by Thailand, Europe and then other international markets. Prices for the luxury plug-in hybrid sedan will be announced closer to the date of launch.
