Ford could save the Mustang and F-Series from going all-electric with synthetic fuel

In a recent interview, Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, stated that although the company is committed to growing its EV business, it will not discontinue its ICE-powered vehicles.

Ford is one of a handful of automakers that haven't committed to going all-electric in the future. Farley reasons that the electric drivetrain isn't for everybody and that there are always those who are looking for the sound and fury of a V8. He explained that the company "will do what's required", which is to grow its EV business to 2 million vehicles in four years. Having said that, the brand also wants loyal customers who own F-150s, Broncos and Mustangs to have a good experience.

Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance Motorsports, stated that one of the main reasons (apart from the new power unit regulations) why the brand was interested in Formula One is its shift to carbon-neutral synthetic fuel in 2026. The new fuel is said to emit only as much carbon as is used to produce it.

He added that electric vehicles are an important part of Ford's future, but they will also offer combustion-engine vehicles in different parts of the world for a long time.

Oh thank heaven at least one big Auto Exec isn’t fully toe-ing the ‘Pinko’ line of Everything EV!
Yes indeed there are some who will always love the sound and fury of a V8 or any other good ICE engine.
If synthetic fuel becomes a reality then Im sure there will be conversion kits and in consequence these best beloved fossil fuel powered automobiles need not be wasted!

Re: Ford could save the Mustang and F-Series from going all-electric with synthetic fuel

I was reading up on what Porsche has been doing with their alternative fuel as well.

However, post reading up on it in detail it is to be observed that at least Porsche in particular are using the process of electrolysis in order to split the hydrogen from the oxygen in water. Their aim is to extract carbon dioxide from the air and combine it with the hydrogen to create methanol.

This is where the question arises: How far away is that from our regular CNG?

Will these cars be able to push just as much power as their petrol counterparts? Seems unlikely to me. However I feel, as the fuel is not as potent and does not cause as much harm to the environment, maybe we could then use this fuel and go back to bigger inline sixes rather than a turbo 4-cylinder no?

Would really like to hear everyone's take on this matter as well. I have been pondering upon it for days now.
