Full-width head-up display to debut on next-gen BMW models

BMW's Neue-Klase models will get a massive head-up display spanning the entire width of the dashboard. Called the "BMW Panoramic Vision", the tech aims to deliver all the info, but by reducing distractions and allowing the driver to focus on the road ahead.

The Panoramic Vision consists of three screens; the one in front of the driver presents all the driving-related information like speed and lane markings. The middle screen displays the infotainment options and features, while all other additional information can be sent to the third display ahead of the front passenger. The driver can control who sees what and can even shut off some parts of the display.

BMW Board Member in charge of development, Frank Weber, explained that the windshield becomes a single large display, which opens up a number of new possibilities for design.

The driver gets to decide what information is displayed in his own field of vision or what other occupants can or cannot see. Weber further stated that the new tech would allow drivers to focus on driving with their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Re: Full-width head-up display to debut on next-gen BMW models

No matter how much you try, screens will distract a driver. As if the existing 10 inch screens aren't enough, they come up with full length running displays. I am sure they will have another big screen to toggle those 'n' number of features that many actually do not use.
