Mercedes-AMG to bring back V8 engines on its C63 and E63 models

Mercedes-Benz recently introduced the latest iteration of the AMG C63 with a hybridized 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. While the upcoming AMG E63 is expected to feature an in-line 6-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain. Now though, it has been reported that Mercedes-AMG is planning to bring back the V8 engine to both the C63 and E63 models.

As per media reports, the M177 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine could be re-introduced on the range-topping C and E-Class models in 2026. The 8-cylinder engine will receive updates to help it meet the stringent Euro 7 emission standards. The V8 currently powers the brand's AMG GT63 S E Performance and the AMG S63, producing 831 BHP and 791 BHP, respectively. Both range-topping AMG models also come with a hybrid setup.

The report also states that both the C and E-Class models will undergo minor bodywork changes as well to accommodate the bigger engine, PHEV battery, electric motor and all other auxiliary equipment. The AMG versions of both the C and E-Class are expected to remain in production well into the next decade.

Re: Mercedes-AMG to bring back V8 engines on its C63 and E63 models

Wonder what might have prompted the u-turn. Sure, it is more of a rumour than confirmation, but still eager to know the reason.

If it was poor sales/reception to the new C63 then.

Or maybe they wanted to spread the costs of developing the TTV8 hybrid.

Now waiting for the u-turn regarding their vulgar portrait touchscreens on the dashboard.

Re: Mercedes-AMG to bring back V8 engines on its C63 and E63 models

Was reading a comparison between the C63, M3 and RS4.

Of course, the M3 is perfect, the RS4 although relatively dated, has soul. The C63 trails behind these in that

1: The peak power is only available for a short period like DRS
2: The weight blunts everything
3: It lacks soul

Re: Mercedes-AMG to bring back V8 engines on its C63 and E63 models

Although it doesn't seem concrete yet, it is a good move in my opinion, especially since it's a turnaround from the current 4-cylinders. Such a powertrain in a primarily enthusiast focused car doesn't make sense...
but it's not like we in the Indian automotive scene will be getting these ever.
Mercedes exterior design is going good, hopefully they turnaround in the horrid interiors as well. It was really classy up until the 2019 generation, just too gimmicky now.

Re: Mercedes-AMG to bring back V8 engines on its C63 and E63 models

Hoping this is not just a rumour and would actually turn into fruition. It's really sad that Mercedes had earlier decided to remove their hallmark V8 which was the heart of both the C63 AMG and E63 AMG. But guess what, ultimately the market responds because it's the customers who pay for these at the end of day.

Some other trends like moving everything to screens and using a lot of plastic parts is also something that's I expect to backfire in this decade. Nonetheless, credit where it's due - if true this is a great step from Mercedes. Sorry to say but without a V8 63 is just a arbitrary number

I have said it before and will say it again - it's not cars that cause all this environmental pollution but rather a handful of mega corporations. Asking them to lower their emissions by even a small fraction should allow us to drive a naturally aspirated V8 without guilt for the rest of our lives

Yeah no one's buying the new car. And 63 customers tend to be repeats, I know multiple guys in our AMG club on their 4th or 5th AMG. They all HATE the new C63 with a passion.

My guess is that they'll call it the 73 or something similar hallowed from their archives. But still a great move, if it comes to fruition. An AMG V8 truly is a thing of beauty.

The CEO confirms that it was all a rumour.

Re: Mercedes-AMG to bring back V8 engines on its C63 and E63 models

The current C has been designed to the only 4 cyl engines. The cost to modify the car for V8 cannot be justified considering things are not as simple as they used to be - read brakes, ESP, drive train, sensors, steering sensors, transmission..list can go on!

Own goal to Mercedes!
