Mercedes confirms 'little G' as a smaller sibling to the G-wagon: Teased ahead of unveil

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed a new G-Class variant called "Little G". The German carmaker has released the first official teaser, which outlines the upcoming model.

As seen from the teaser, the new "little G" seems to carry forward the old-school boxy design of the current G-Class. It is also expected to feature the traditional boot-mounted spare wheel.

The teaser was released during the unveiling of the new Mercedes CLA Class Concept by company CEO Ola Kallenius. The Mercedes boss stated that the little G will "take the character of the big & brash G-Class and condense it down into a more compact package."

Apart from the teaser though, no other details have been released about the "little G". Having said that, reports do suggest that the new model will be positioned below the G-Wagon, will come standard with four-wheel-drive, undercut the current G-Class pricing and maybe even offer a pure electric version with the tech borrowed from the upcoming EQG.

The upcoming Little G from Mercedes is said to take on the likes of the Jeep Wrangler and the lower-spec versions of the Defender.

When they use words like "little" and "compact", what they really mean is cheaper . And that is a word that doesn't exist in the Mercedes marketing department's lexicon.

Who really needs a smaller G wagon when we can have our own J-Wagon R at a fraction of what Merc is going to charge us anyways.
