Volvo On Demand - R.I.P

Volvo on Demand ceased operations on the 13th of January, 2025.

As the hip would say, "We got Volvo rentals stop running before we got the write up for Kinto Share!"

---

I personally stopped renting Volvo's because they had raised the prices by quite a steep margin for both the hourly rate and the per-km cost. Kinto (Toyota) was a better value, albeit not as great in the UX department.

The last time I rented a Volvo was an XC-40 Recharge (electric) to take my folks on a drive when they visited me in Sweden.

So, now there is one fewer shared mobility service around, however there are a couple I had not mentioned in my previous write-ups, OKQ8 Carpool (formerly Move About) and GoMore rentals.

OKQ8 operates electric vehicles and works mostly with housing associations to provide residents a sustainable alternative to owning a car. We have a couple of Nissan Leafs where I live, and although their hourly price is higher, the rentals includes 250 kilometers free per day.

GoMore is a car rental platform where individuals can put their cars up for rent, and earn some passive income. They assist with installing a key-free solution so no in-person interaction needs to take place during pick-up and drop-off. I have not tried this, yet.

And, yes, I will eventually write in detail about Kinto Share

I was pretty excited to sign up with Volvo On Demand (which was the called Volvo Mobility, I think) as soon as I'd received my Swedish DL. My first rental was an XC40, but what I didn't know then was that it would also be the last time I rented from them! I remember being giddy with excitement as I drove home with the XC40, and took my wife for a spin. I ended up buying my own car within a week of that, so the only thing I've rented since then was the RV with which I did my Norway trip. I was interested to try out the Polestar 2 on Volvo On Demand, but my city didn't have them in the fleet, so couldn't do that either. And now it's gone for good .

That first drive in the xc40 must have been a really special feeling!

You could try Hygglo or GoMore, hopefully someone is renting them out near you. I haven't tried these platforms yet, but should be similar to how you rented the RV.

Somebody is renting the Polestar, you mean? Yeah, might be worth a shot! Or maybe easier to just book a test drive! They'll even send a Polestar expert, apparently, to help show me around the controls during the test-drive.

I mean someone might be renting near you. It's a platform where private cars are rented out by individuals, so it's a matter of chance.

You could even test drive the Polestar 3 and 4 now

Well, unless it's a special model, I have no need to rent now, as I have my own car, which is also the reason I stopped renting from Volvo On Demand. I'm sure there are plenty of options to rent from, should I want say a seven seater or something.
