New-generation Jeep Compass could debut this year; Based on EV-native platform

According to media reports, American automaker Jeep is in the process of updating its entire model lineup. The carmaker is expected to introduce new-generation iterations of many of its models, starting with the Jeep Compass SUV.

New-generation Jeep Compass could debut this year; Based on EV-native platform-newgencompass.jpg

As per reports, Jeep is working on a brand new Compass SUV for the European market. The upcoming new-gen Compass will be built from the ground up, making use of the STLA-M platform of Stellantis. This indicates Jeep could offer a range of powertrain options on the Compass, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and even an all-electric version.

The new Compass will be a strict five-seater SUV and will feature a more boxier and upright stance compared to the current version. Jeep could offer the Compass in two options - standard and Trail-Rated. The latter will differentiate itself with a taller ride height, off-road tyres, better approach & departure angles, and use rugged materials all around.

Moving inside, reports suggest that the new-gen Compass will get a completely revamped look, with plenty of tech borrowed from elsewhere in the Stellantis Group. This includes Peugeot's windscreen i-cockpit layout and Vauxhall Grandland's 16-inch widescreen setup; among others. Being a Jeep, the SUV will also feature the traditional 'Easter Eggs' spread across the SUV.

The Compass will be the first of many models expected to get a generation change.

Finally! The compass was a great car when it was launched here almost 8 years ago but it slowly went from best seller to dud as the years went by and competitors caught up to and surpassed it. Especially in space and engine power.

A generational change was sorely needed considering the compass now costs 2x what it did when it was first launched and it still looks almost the same from the outside. A massive no-no for an aspirational car in a fast paced world.

Re: New-generation Jeep Compass could debut this year; Based on EV-native platform

Very interesting.

I hoped that the India Compass updates calendar would match or lead the global but there is no word on India compass update from Jeep India. Their focus seems to be on Meridian this year.

Unless Jeep India have been great at keeping us from the developments, it is another instance of moving slow vs India market needs and wants. Not helping.

Anyway- I am hoping the new gen mechanicals allow for a more reliable and zippy power train than erstwhile lethargic petrol DDCT and ‘just’ good enough Diesel AT.

I don’t think that Jeep India would consider hybrids for India as the costs would be prohibitive.

The way compass brand has been handled I will say Compass is a product that Jeep India needs but does not deserve.

It will all amount to nothing if they don’t get their new 2 liter turbo petrols and diesels to the Indian market. Powertrains are the single biggest weakness of the Compass, especially considering the price points it operates in. New petrol and diesel engines of adequate competitive size and producing in tune of 200bhp are badly needed.

1. The pricing of spare parts for the Compass needs to be addressed. Currently, the on-road prices of the Compass range between 25-38 lakhs, and the cost of spare parts is notably higher compared to its competitors, almost reaching the levels of the leading German car manufacturers.

2. The reliability of the Compass should be improved. According to the Service Advisors at the service centres, Compass requires more frequent maintenance compared to its rival models.

3. There is a need to enhance the service centre network and its quality. In several cities, the service centres are either non-existent or are reportedly involved in unfair practices aimed at extracting money from customers.

I hope that the upcoming model will address these concerns. Once these issues are rectified, the Compass will truly stand out as an exceptional car. Its solid build and unparalleled driving dynamics make it a great choice, and I wish the team behind Compass all the best in addressing these areas for improvement.

.
That’s just an FCA trait globally across all their brands : Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, and Ram Trucks. Most of their cars have some reliability issues and they can be rather expensive to fix. They have powerful engines and are generally cheap to buy though compared to the competition.

That’s the thing. In India, Jeep Compass is neither very powerful, nor cheap to buy. Rest of the traits are there. No wonder sales have tanked.

Peugeot E-3008 and Opel Grandland, both based on STLA-Medium platform foreshadow the Next Gen Compass.

To me it seems like it will grow up in size and match up to Tata Harrier/MG Hector, settling the Price-to-Size debate for once and all.

Opel Grandland

Agree for the 2.0 GME Turbo Petrol. It has been introduced last year in North America(200 Bhp/300 Nm) and very recently in Brazil(272 Bhp/400 Nm). Interestingly Jeep Commander (aka Meridian) is also set to ditch the 2.0 MJD very soon for the more powerful 2.2 MJD in Brazil.

I hope they bring it quickly to India, but slightly scared that Stellantis might take the Volkswagen route and not introduce the new model in India. However, that seems very unlikely, given that India Ops exports to Left-hand drive nations.

Jeep should act independently of Stellantis and stay true to its American roots. Produce a reliable, unbreakable car. Jeep can take a leaf out of Toyota's book and produce indestructible SUVs that can steadily go upmarket in value and still sell in huge numbers.

They seriously should, their hybrid FWDs could be a rage for city dwellers. The trick would be to undercut the Toyota Fortuner Hybrid in pricing.

I completely agree, it is pound-for-pound the best handling and riding vehicle in its class and has the X factor which many other competitors lack. And Jeep if you are listening, please retain the manual transmission.

Jeep confirms new-generation Compass for 2027.

Renewed SUV should leave the current platform aside in favor of STLA, which will be shared with Peugeot and Opel products

Quote:
the model will move away from the Small Wide 4x4 platform and build on the modern STLA Medium base. The architecture is newly developed and has just debuted on the new generations of Peugeot 3008 and Opel Grandland. It will be adopted by a series of mid-size models from the Stellantis group, and can accommodate traditional, hybrid and electric powertrains.
Quote:
the next Compass will be much larger and will take on the role of Jeep's midsize SUV once and for all. The exact size is still a mystery, but STLA Medium itself gives clues. Modular in nature, the architecture accommodates vehicles with lengths that can vary between 4.3 and 4.9 meters, as well as wheelbases of 2.7 to 2.9 meters. That is, both vehicles in the C and D segments. For comparison, the current Compass measures 4.40 meters in length and 2.63 meters in wheelbase.
Quote:
The base structure allows for 400-volt electrical architecture and supports electric motors with power outputs between 220 hp and 390 hp, indicating that the EV version of the next Compass will follow this path. In addition, it has a charging capacity of 20% to 80% in 27 minutes and accommodates batteries up to 98 kWh, delivering a range of 500 km to 700 km.
The premiere is expected to start in Europe and North America.
