French carmaker, Citroen, recently unveiled the concept version of its next-generation C5 Aircross for the global markets. Now, the production prototype of the upcoming mid-size SUV has been spotted testing for the first time.



The next-generation Citroen C5 Aircross will make its global premiere sometime next year. The mid-size SUV will be based on Stellantis' STLA-M platform, allowing the car to feature both pure-electric and hybrid powertrain options. Reports state, that the new C5 Aircross will get a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine paired with either a mild or full plug-in hybrid system, driving the front wheels.



The electric Citroen C5 Aircross will feature three powertrain options, with either single or dual-motor variants paired to a 73 kWh battery pack. The WLTP range of the electric C5 Aircross could be around 400 miles (644 km) on a single charge.



In terms of design, the next-gen Citroen C5 Aircross prototype can be seen wrapped in heavy camouflage. However, based on the concept, the SUV is expected to get a longer wheelbase and larger rear doors, allowing the brand to maximise interior space. On the outside, the car could get new headlights and tail lights, flush door handles and large wheels.

Inside, the new C5 Aircross could get the panoramic display from Vauxhall - a brand owned by Stellantis Group. The SUV is expected to remain a 5-seater model, offering plenty of cabin space for both passengers and their luggage at the back.

But it's all within the family so should be ok.

If it's based on STLA-M platform, it won't be coming to India due to cost reasons. For exact same reason, next gen Jeep Compass isn't coming here either.

Would be interesting to see how Stellantis goes about the next generation of its offerings in India.

if and when this makes its way to our shores, Citroen will be a goner. Finally, they have a few USPs - good looks, comfort, 2 nice engines and a proper TC 'box for a shade under 10 lakhs (ex showroom). However, Citroen and Stellantis as a whole has already destroyed their presence as a whole in India, and regaining trust isn't so easy.

The leak of the production model drawings have come out of the Argentine patent registration office, so we already know that this new SUV will be more international. Three images that show the main views, and of which the two most important are the side and the rear.

the stylists led by Thierry Koskas have respected the design of the C5 Aircross Concept to the maximum, including the shape of the roof and the rear pillar, as well as the custody window in the rear volume, highlighted by a recess at the top. It is the piece with which Citroën has made a difference compared to the side of the new Opel Grandland, in addition to betting on conventional door handles, instead of retractable ones.

The rear has also been respected, with lights that are out of the conventional and not because they are flush with the window, but because the light functions have been separated. A more futuristic design among all Stellantis compact SUVs, and with significant growth in all its dimensions, but especially in the length. About 115 millimeters extra compared to the C5 Aircross that is still sold.

Citroën has no intention, for now, of offering the C5 Aircross with seven seats, at least on the European continent, but it is equipped with electrified petrol engines, PHEV plug-in hybrids and electric with four-wheel drive and more than 600 kilometres of range.

The presentation is scheduled for this first half of 2025, around mid-spring, which means between May and June, and the market launch around November. It will be the last of its kind at Stellantis to go on sale.

Citroën, which intends to present the new C5 Aircross in the first half of the year and put it on sale in the second, will follow the same strategy as its sister brands by dispensing with diesel versions. The range includes petrol and all electrified options, with MHEV and PHEV technology as well as a few electric ones. The only ones that will be able to have four-wheel drive. The maximum range will be close to 700 kilometers on a charge.

I usually like the Quirky and stylish French cars and I have particularly liked the current and the pre facelift C5 air cross. They are one of the best looking mid-size SUV in Europe.

However, with this facelift, I think Citroen has gone too far with the quirks. The front end design seems very busy and disjointed. Lines don't go organically and the lights seem like they are stuck on randomly.

I don't know.

Perhaps I am judging it too quickly and will wait for the reveal.

It is easy to assume that the mild hybrid will be equipped with the 145 hp 1.2 PureTech 3-cylinder, while under the hood of the plug-in there will be a 1.6 4-cylinder with a system power of 194 hp (both will have the dual-clutch robotic gearbox). The electric variants will have powers from 210 to 231 hp and there will also be twin-motor versions with all-wheel drive. The declared range will reach about 700 km

Citroen C5 Aircross debuts:

Under the hood, Citroën is betting on a multi-energy offer.

In terms of footprint, the new C5 Aircross measures 4,652 mm long and has a 2,784 mm wheelbase, figures increased by 150 mm and 60 mm respectively compared to its predecessor.

The real surprise comes inside the “C-Zen Lounge” cabin. The slim floating center console features large portrait-style “Cascade” infotainment screen, neatly paired with a row of physical buttons below it. There is also a sleek-looking drive selector, a smaller digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display. Furthermore, a storage area and cupholders are tucked in behind the touchscreen. Overall, the interior looks clean, modern, and ready to make commuting slightly less of a chore.

Another highlight of the Citroen C5 Aircross features heavily cushioned “comfort” seats. These will be combined with a Citroen-specific suspension setup, sticking with the comfort-focused recipe of its predecessor. The larger footprint allows more legroom for the rear passengers, and a bigger boot with a capacity of 651 l . Furthermore, there is a 75 l compartment under the boot floor, and 40 l scattered around the cabin.

Finally, and for the first time, the family SUV is available in a 100% electric version with two power levels and two battery capacities:

210 hp and 73 kWh battery useful for a range of 520 km WLTP;
230 hp and 97 kWh battery useful for 680 km WLTP.

The ë-C5 Aircross comes standard with an 11 kW onboard charger. From 2026, it will be equipped with an optional 22 kW cable compatible with V2L bidirectional charging. To go from 20 to 80% on a 7.4 kW Wallbox, you have to wait between 6 hours 45 minutes and 8 hours 55 minutes depending on the battery. Charging time is reduced to 30 minutes at a fast charging station thanks to a direct current output of 160 kW.

The market launch of the new Citroen C5 Aircross in Europe is scheduled for the second half of 2025. Pricing will be announced closer to that date.
