Renault wants to move away from SUVs & offer future models with completely new body styles

According to a media report, Renault will introduce its new generation of vehicles in 2028. These new models from the French carmaker though will feature completely new body styles & move away from the conventional SUV design.

Renault even showcased their Embleme Concept, which hints at the new design language, as confirmed by the brand's design chief. The new generation models will be based on a new platform, which claims to offer "radical advances in efficiency & sustainability."

Talking about the Embleme concept, the design boss stated, "The Embleme is a better representation of what's next for the brand globally in terms of design, and maybe new silhouettes, for the future: generous shapes, not too minimalistic, but simpler than what we did lately on Scenic."

Gilles Vidal, Design Chief, Renault, mentioned, "The big question is how to do you reinvent the next step in terms of concepts [and] silhouettes? What do they stand for? What are they for?"

Vidal also stated that despite "a lot of SUV bashing, people still want, and sometimes even need them. SUVs have replaced MPVs, more or less, and some people still buy them for practical reasons. It makes you wonder what should we do that’s less questionable in terms of heritage, and more efficient, and therefore deserves a new kind of shape?"

He mentioned that "people will still need big cars", hence he questioned, "What character do you give to those products? And beyond that, what are the next things? It seems like we’ve seen it all. The world invented the Espace and the Scenic, and big fat SUVs and then more respectable crossovers. Along with almost 140 years of automobile history, it seems like we’ve seen it all – but surely there are new things to invent; new very meaningful concepts and silhouettes regarding society’s questions in today’s world."

2028 means these models will come after they exit from India. Looking at current numbers from Renault, it will be very difficult for them and their dealers to sustain here after next 1-2 years. They are just going down and down with no light in sight.

They're not going anytime soon I believe. Duster is coming and if they can get some decent sales, they'll stick around. And if there is an EV shift, they have some very good options that they may bring to India.

Both Renault and Nissan (and now Citroen) has clearly two class of products. One class is the premium one they launch in their home country and other parts of the west and the second class is for countries like India. The treatment is very clear from not bringing the updated logos and designs to products they sell in India.
Honestly, This step-child treatment is going to sink them in our country.

I agree with you sir. If you see Nissan, they have a long list of beautiful products in the world but what we get here in India? Just Magnite for last 3 years. India is soon becoming third largest economy in the world, do we really deserve such step child treatment? I will strongly say no. We deserve better cars from them, if not, we don't need you, thank you. Same with others like Renault, Honda, Toyota, etc. They still feel India is third world country which is not the case. Premium brands like Merc, BMW are taking India more seriously and giving us world class products which we deserve. For common man, only Suzuki and Hyundai, Kia are taking serious efforts and giving us good products. Our own Tata and Mahindra are fighting hard and improved themselves 10 times in last few years which is really good for us.

I love this design trend of having slopping bonnet with wing like element at the front- looks way better than just closing off the front portion to improve aerodynamics.

The design looks amazing. I have seen great looking cars from Peugeot and Renault abroad. An EV with this design will definitely sell a lot for Renault.

Love this new design language. More manufacturers will adapt this trend. The new SUV from Xiaomi - YU7 looks like this. Even Ferrari Purosangue follow similar design.
