Great Wall Motors developing supercar 'better' than a Ferrari

Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors has announced plans to develop a new supercar, claiming it will be better than a Ferrari SF90. The company has also said that it will not be electric.

Plans for a Ferrari-rivalling supercar were revealed by GWM chief technology officer Wu Huixiao in an interview on Chinese social media platform Weibo. There is no timeline announced yet, but Wu said that the supercar program has been in progress for five years. GWM is still looking at controlling costs, but she says that once the car comes out, it will be a stunning product.

"We must build a car that will spike up adrenaline and cause an explosion of hormones, and dopamine," she said. She added that the GWM supercar will be better than the 985 BHP twin-turbo plug-in hybrid Ferrari SF90. Company chairman Jack Wei has been spotted driving one in China.

There is no word on the new supercar's engine. It is unlikely that the company’s new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 will be used, as it may be too big for the car.

That suggests that GWM may be developing a new engine for the car, or is planning to use a smaller engine from its portfolio. It offers a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 in the Tank 700 SUV which, with the assistance of an electric motor, develops 516 BHP. GWM's flagship hybrid powertrain uses an even smaller engine, a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder, to assist two electric motors producing a claimed 851 BHP and 1139 Nm.

The GWM chief technology officer said "experts" have been invited to China to help develop the supercar, and that the company is developing carbon fibre as well. However, it is not confirmed if it will be used to build the new supercar.

That’s a strange "un-corporate-esque" statement coming from an auto industry executive.

But the Ferraris are not "great" cars. The Nobles, Mclarens, porsches are arguably better "cars" compared to their respective ferrari. The ferrari overall trumps them out when you add the badge to the weigh in.
Unless GWM has done what chinese firms do, and acquired a badge and heritage like Detomaso maybe?

In the world of M&A & brand buyouts, followed by rebranding & paid promotion I’m sure they will create a hype of the engine.
To be honest, ICE engines is not exactly Chinese forte till yet. But this can the best foot forward from them.
My best wishes to the company.
