Wooden car prototype released!!

Wooden car launched in Kyoto

A prototype car made of wood is unveiled in Kyoto, western Japan on Wednesday, June 18, 2008.

With traditional craft of bamboo used on its door, the one-seater car runs about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) with combination of lithium-ion battery and capacitor after recharging by wall outlet at home. The maximum speed is 50 kilometers per hour.

Props for ingenuity but what good is 10 kilometers on one charge. I would rather use a cycle. Maybe they can make one of those out of wood too.

Actually, they do make bicycles out of wood - enthusiasts or hobbyists do anyways!

Bicycles started out being built as wooden contraptions.

This is a waste if you ask me. Only 10 kms on one charge and what if it catches fire? I admire the Japanese and their ingenuity but this is downright stupid.

The idea is to be innovative and create something different... i doubt the creator intended it for practical use.

This is something like that person in Hyderabad or somewhere who keeps making cars in interesting shapes like Condoms, Vegetables etc..

Is that a prototype or simply a concept? Is the whole car made of bamboo? Because there are pukka bicycles being made where the frame is made by bamboo sticks.

Of course the 1900s had no electricity on tap and no lithium ion cells either.
