They had AMG during 126?

Umm S-350, i beg to differ on that...

.... IMHO i find BMW's M-division far superior. The fact that they've prepared everything from street-car engines to sports cars to circuit versions of road cars to F-1 cars to Nurburgring stormers makes you sit-up and take notice of their achievements. Sure, AMG gets more HP per cc out of their cars, but then again, M-power does the same, w/o superchargers or turbochargers.

Remember the 80s and BMWs domination during the mid-80s in F-1? They got 1200 hp outta F-1 cars then, and their cars literally could do wheelies. Even to work with complex engines like the M-5 E-39 with 8 throttle bodies, double vanos and the like, it could only be M-division that could do it.

I like AMG, but i like M-Power that much more...

lol done deal as long as u say AMG!

My point is yes M is very exclusive, It keeps itself limited to models and very few ( M5 and M3 and few others ) but the point is ive driven an E55 (W211) once,
And an S55 in which i could not drive but was driven around in,
And after the the M5 felt outta place,

Yes M5 handles better and im sure the new generation will be much better when it comes to handling,
but sheer straight line speeds and the E55 goes way ahead,
Also when the M comes out remember E55 Turbocharged will upgrade to E63 NA!
That should seriously again put AMG back on top,
I mean they are always ahead in their horsepower game, S65/CL65/SL65/SL73 ( Previous generation)
But they are serious in their business,

Yes bmw outshines AMG at handling but now AMG has gone a step ahead with the nurbering suspension package,
That beats everything out,
Though quite expensive,

Also one nice thing abt AMG is u can have it in all flavours....forget the models... they even have a diesel AMG!!
C30CDI!

And keeping this discussions aside id rather say we dont take it further as it wud depend on personal opinions ...

AMG and M are more like red and white wine... some like red...some white...

But i like mercedes.. lol and eveyrthing that goes with it...
So lemme know ur addy and u'll have the 2 ton as long as u just stick to Mercedes-Benz..

Also there is a certain amount of poise i see with mercedes cars,
Im sorry i just dont see that with BMW's
Besides i love the new 7, so not that im a BMW hater!

Just that im partial to mercedes...

So here's ur 2 ton! so u cheer for 2 ton sports cars lol..

Hahaha 2 ton cars... lol... another problem with mercs... very very obese...lol

Jokes apart, i agree, AMG gets the HP right, but then again is HP everything? Ettiore Bugatti once said, a car is nothing without brakes. Well to put it in this context, a car is nothing if it cant take the corners as well. And thats where BMWs shine. I love the way AMGs take off in a straight line, typical WW-II fighter manner... but when i am on a B-road doing 60mph, i'd love the cossetting feeling of BMW's road manners.

Remember, it wasnt Mercedes who started the performance sedan segment, it was BMW. It was later on that Audi with its RS, Merc with its AMGs and Jag with its type-Rs came along. When BMW launched the E-39 M5 in 1999, it was the benchmark car in terms of performance. The Jaguar XJ and Merc E55 had barely 350-360 hp then, while the M5 took the gauntlet at 400. And it also remained the benchmark for the upcoming RS6 in 02, the E55 and the S-type R.

The M5 has always laid the foundation for others to catch upto cuz it pioneered the segment. You indicated that BMW has only the M5 and M3 to harp about. But thats not true. The 4.8is X5 is an M-development. Ditto for the sport packages in the 330i which produces 10hp more and has a better suspension axle and steering setup. The M-alloys are available as after-fittment on all BMs. Maybe its different management policies of the companies. Also pal, Alpina is another of BMWs divisions which does customs jobs. They too have worked on the 3.0d engine which is why AMG did the same with the C30CDi.

Finally to each his own... though we cud still sit together and finish the two tons of pringles...

Thats actually the culture of BMW which has trickled down to their M division. BMW dont have half as many models/engine configs as Mercedes do.

BMW publicly states that it is a specialist car manufacturer and no BMW ever made would be boring to drive. Mercedes, according to them, is a generalist manufacturer of cars, vans, trucks et all.

But one nice thing about AMG is they constantly add improvements,
And like i said shed a few more Euros and the nurbering suspension is atchually too good to believe,
and another good aspect for AMG is it offers sportyness in all flavours..
While with BMW u cant get a Ripped off M7 unless u get it tuned aftermarket!

But merc gives it to u the way u want it..
heck they even have a G55 not that it matters but people wud like to shove a bit in their SUV's

but then again like i said im not a BMW hater... but thats just to experience my rival lol..

lets get back to pringles
