Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss

"As a modern day interpretation of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Sir Stirling Moss drove to victory in the demanding Mille Miglia race, the special edition SLR 722 model with its roofless design and low rising windscreen is expected to make its official debut any day now.

Only 75 units will be produced, and as a result of its lack of roof, loses about 440 pounds off the SLR's kerb weight making it the fastest top-speed of any SLR at 217mph. 0-186mph in 26 seconds."

It seems Mercedes really knows how to keep the shape of their test cars a secret. The pattern of triangles makes it almost impossible to grasp the true shape of the car.

220mph! Now thats some real high speed.

Some more infomation:
Quote:
The shutterbugs at KGP have captured the forthcoming McLaren SLR Speedster as it hits the Nordschleife for some testing. The car's expected to be lighter but just as powerful as the standard SLR and SLR Roadster, meaning it could conceivably be able to blow their respective doors off. A top end of 220 mph should be available to those who like to stare down the Reaper for kicks, and KGP reports that the car could be unveiled by the end of the month with one Lewis Hamilton behind the wheel.

The car looks huge in the 3rd & 4th pics, or is it just that Chris Goodwin's head is tiny !

I wouldn't wanna drive that without a windscreen, or at least a helmet.

The looks seem to be overwhelming. It can though be the covers which are hiding the real curves. Tripple headlamps not sure what duty they all have segregated for themselves.

Just a rendering. Although it lacks the three pair of headlamps, it gives, IMO a better idea of the car as the spy shot is very busy looking.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss

According to a rough machine translation diligently provided by GermanCarZone.com, the true name can finally be revealed: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss - a tribute vehicle to the legendary Sir Stirling Moss who is most famous for his 1955 Mille Miglia victory in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR.

This modern day interpretation is equipped with the 650 HP supercharged V8 from the standard SLR which pushes to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 350 km/h (210 mph).

The Stirling Moss edition SLR represents the final series of the Mercedes-Benz SLR of which only 75 will be built in the McLaren facility in Woking England. Production begins in June 2009 and will only be available to the most loyal SLR clientèle.

It was only six months ago when the first spy images, rendering and video of the roofless SLR, dubbed “speedster” and “gullwing revival,” appeared and already these leaked images suggest a possible surprise debut in Detroit next month. Already crippled with numerous major auto makers withdrawals, a high profile supercar debut is just what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately its not coming from one of the ailing Big Three.

This is way OTT.

Something sublime but mad could have best described a Sir Sterling Moss edition.

Can't afford it but will still drool over it. Just love the side profile with the side exhausts.
