Mercedes Benz and Aston Martin to join hands?

Mercedes Benz and Aston Martin are in talks to sign a €300m deal.
This deal will see Aston Martin get twin turbo V12 powerplants from MB instead of the current Ford based engines used in their cars and benefit from Merc's R&D. In return, future Maybachs will be designed and engineered by AM.
Many new models including SUVs and Hybrids might come come our way as a result of this collaboration.

Oh wait. Actually I hate them both. What do I care. I guess they'll come up with something interesting. I'll have my Scud and my Spur till then, thank you.

Oddly when I first heard of the Chrysler Merc marriage I knew it was doomed from the start. They were poles apart in every sense of the word and I really wonder what either saw as common. Glad that disastrous alliance ended

Merc and Aston sound nice. Both can at best be described as beefy when it comes to performance characteristics. The old Vantage under hard acceleration sounded like a rhino in full snort. Merc V8's have a similar gutteral sound too.

Mercedes has also moved so far away from something that can be genuinely considered sporty. Instead of reinventing a carefully crafted brand identity it would be easier to infuse all the sportiness it wants through the Aston brand. Good move

.

Just imagine. The technology of a Merc with the sex appeal of an AM

I'm drooling already!!

In the end though, it'll be better styled Mercs, and AM's with better engines.

If the hate is so strong, isn't it time you change the pic in your public profile?

I beleive it as a wise move by both the brands. Merc can spread their R&D cost over, especially on developing the high performance engines like the above mentioned twin turbo V12 which is expected to power the next-gen S600 & upcomg Maybach (if Daimler decide not to drop the brand).

No.
For God's sake

Aston Martin makes beautiful cars with amazing noise.
Mercs are more sophisticated and chauffer-driven ( not the sports variants of course)

Weren't Mercedes and BMW talking about some engine sharing deal as well? I guess this could really benefit the companies financially. They can pool in their resources and have better R&D and hopefully in the end save a tonne of money as well.

Listen to a AMG SL accelerate. That V8 sounds divine.

The deal is done?
We can expect lots of fireworks from them in terms of some very good cars.
Imagine a Merc V12 sound in a Rapide!

That isn't a stock/standard SL. And it had wierd rims, but I thought they (FabDesign) did a rather good job overall with the execution of their theme. BTW, the last Merc that interested me was the W220 S and the prev-gen SL55.

Someone likes doing their research, eh

How is this different from the many engine-supply and design-outsource deals? I don't think too much is going to change. Except that we can hope for a good looking Maybach.

Most certainly, sir. What is a comment without the prior backing?

The R230 is a gem though, no doubt. Terrible wheels on the FabDesign SL though.
