Saab NG 9-5 (New Generation) CGI

Saab NG 9-5 (New Generation) renderings

Quote:
If the inside word is to be believed and the artist’s impressions are right, then Saab could well be looking at a Saab 9-5, possibly with a hatch variant of some sort, late next year. The timing seems to no longer be in doubt. Saab officials all the way up to Carl-Peter Forster have said that Saab’s plans remain on track to show the 9-5 and start producing it in late 2009.
These are the images that are considered the best guesses so far

What on earth?! A complete design gaffe! I used to love the sleek and long Saab saloons of the 80/90's.

Saab NG 9-5 will now make its debut later this year along with the new 9-3X crossover.

Underneath the heavy camouflage of this prototype for the new 9-5 is a heavily revised version of GM’s FWD Epsilon II platform, which is also shared by Opel for its new Insignia range. To differentiate Saab as a premium product engineers will provide a stiffer suspension set-up, a new steering rack and a different range of electronics. The car’s wheelbase will stretch 2.84m, which is up 14cm on the current model.

Engine options will include a range of four-cylinder petrol and turbodiesel units including a biofuel model. There will also likely by an AWD flagship model with a turbocharged petrol V6 displacing 3.6L and developing upwards of 350hp (261kW). Other engines will include a 210hp (157kW) 2.0L unit and mid-level 2.8L V6. A petrol-electric hybrid model is also expected.

The new 9-5 will be sourced from Opel’s Ruesselsheim plant in Germany with production tipped to start in the middle of the year. It will then make its debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show as a 2010 model.

The included computer generated rendering shows that designers will be sticking with the avant-garde styling of the original Aero X concept car, and will likely keep the protruding nose, large vents and sculpted bodywork. Other details will include a sleek, coupe-like profile and hatchback rear end.

2010 Saab 9-5

Saab's redesigned 2010 9-5 sedan has been unmasked thanks to several leaked press photos.

Set to be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new 9-5 features distinctive styling with a bold front end and a sleek profile. Overall, the design is pretty much what we expected but there are several interesting touches such as blackened A-pillars and dark trim across the top of the side windows. At the rear, the sloping C-pillars help to give the 9-5 a dramatic appearance which is further assisted by clear LED taillights.

Inside, the cabin boasts traditional Saab design cues such as a "7" dashboard, complex air vents, and a center console-mounted ignition. Other styling touches include glossy black trim, aggressively bolstered seats, and a thick-rimmed steering wheel. On the options list, we can expect a rear seat entertainment system, bi-xenon headlights, a Harman Kardon audio system, keyless entry, and a large 8-inch navigation system from Panasonic.

Based on a sportier version of GM's Epsilon II platform, the new 9-5 rides on a 2.84 meter (111.8") wheelbase which should offer plenty of room in the passenger compartment. The increase in room also extends to the truck, where cargo capacity measures a healthy 513 liters (18.11 cubic feet).

Engine options will include a three turbocharged petrol units: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 160hp, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 210hp, and a 2.8-liter V6 with 300hp. Diesel power will be provided by two 2.0-liter units which will produce 160 hp and 190 hp. Eventually a petrol-electric hybrid is expected, as is a biofuel model.

Look for the new Saab 9-5 sedan to go on sale in Europe in April 2010, with a base price around €35,000.

The air vents are . They look absolutely downmarket, what was SAAB thinking?! And what's with that center console? It's a sea of buttons and switches there. Why didnt they offer a touch screen system and reduce the zillions of switches and buttons on the console? From the outside, the car looks STRETCHEED.

First impresssions are Thumbs Down.

Cool @Hanmust! I like the interiors better than the side profile. The tail lamp assembly is similar to that of the NHC.

Yea.Looks like someone stretched a Swift Dzire
Interiors hark back to the 80s.Something retro about them.
But the car's very cool, beyond doubt.

Good scoop, but then, I wonder how many people were actually eager to see a New "Saab". As for this design and my personal feeling, I haven't ever looked at any Saab with amazement and am neither looking at this one, so its in-line with my Saab expectations.
